I have just recieved mohair from a supplier many of us use on here .
I have rooted daily for the last year and a half .In an evening i can pretty much do most of the top of a head but this hair is a nightnare…
I have only been able to do maybe an inch and a half of the head. .Only picking up a hair now and then. This is the same needle i used on the last baby i rooted. Ieven switched to a new same size needle… no help.
I checked it next to a few strands of the last mohair i recieved and used on the last baby It roots fine so … Now what ?
i use a 42 crown is there anything thats barb etc will pick up a larger hair without making huge holes? do i ask to send it back?.i bought a whole ounce I cant just disgard $54, worth of mohair
i like the color but i cant work with it .
First time since i started rooting this has ever happened. So help please!
Its just not going in.I go across the head i might get 1 strand with this .Im putting it in just like i do all the dolls smooth side going away fron the head .i tried doing root a loop didnt help either
Next to my last hair you can see and actually feel the difference I thought it felt different because she said it was wavey but its as wavey as my last which is fine and silkie even so
I use a 38 guage spiral needle for most of my rooting. Because the barbs are on the spiral, if one barb doesn’t catch a hair the next one does. You can only do a couple of pokes before moving the hair but even so it goes fairly quickly and doesn’t leave visible holes. I don’t hear my heads. I fill them with poly pellets packed in tightly with paper towels. It prevents the vinyl from giving when you push the needle. You might want to try this and see if it makes a difference.
I would send it back, as you sound like you have the knowledge, experience and skill. Could be the mohair. I personally don’t care to use a bigger needle.
I got mine from WeirCrafts.com (3 inch shank). They work well in my felting pen. i don’t mind a bigger needle as long as it doesn’t leave visible holes. For some reason the 38 guage straight needles leave visible holes. The spiral ones don’t.
Thanks .
Since i use 42 I already ordered some 40 crown and forks See how they do if not ill order spiral.
Hate to send it back its great a color but wonder should i tell her its thicker in case others order ?
She can be careful who she orders her mohair from then She may not reslalize.
Are you sure the hair is 'facing" the right direction?? Did you turn it around to see if the “other end” will root better? Or maybe you need a needle with a deeper barb. I have single barb needles with different depth barbs and the smallest won’t catch hair, it’s annoying. You really have to watch that when you are ordering. I have needles with the depth of .02 and .04. I didn’t realize this when I ordered them (a long time ago).
Ahh i just ordered 42 crown Their website says 40 has a bigger barb so im assuming it will catch more hairs also got the forked Maybe it will work Yes this is frustrating.Im catching a few but way less than usual and as i said used this same needle on last head no problem then tried same size but no nope Here is a pic what she usually sends at top lower this new .
You can see it has a differrent circumfrence slightly but different.
