Okay, it’s gotten so bad I’ve dug into my son’s play-doh, and begun building ears and noses. Lol. I have this big urge to sculpt, and no sculpey on hand. I used to love working in clay, building, and trying to master the wheel, but I’ve never learned the proper way to sculpt a figure. I know there are all sorts of ways to learn, and obviously it’s very hands- on. BUT, can you please throw some links at me- the most basic to the very advanced. And does anyone have a supplies list for the important things that I will need? My urge to sculpt is crazy, and must be fulfilled!.. I might be terrible at it. Haha, we’ll see.
Not sure what kind of sculpting you are looking for but I have saved a ton on pinterest on different polymer clay stuff! lol https://www.pinterest.com/jeslilmax/crafty-clays/ and https://www.pinterest.com/jeslilmax/art-dolls/ I like both cute and weird stuff, Also found this board https://www.pinterest.com/marianneplhn/baby-sculpting-toturial/ if your wanting to sculpt babies!
Secrist Dolls has an excellent sculpting DVD for reborning.
Thanks! I was wondering about that. Is it pretty comprehensive?
Aww, I love almost all of those! Thanks! I do have a lot of ideas, and love PInterest for others, but I need to find some technique tips.
It’s detailed step by step. The day I got mine I watched it immediately. I got so excited I wanted to cancel a dinner engagement and start sculpting. lol (I didn’t)
Perfect! Putting on my wish list!
They also have all the sculpting supplies.
PM me anytime Marissa. I’m in class right now (finished all my work, again. They don’t give me enough worksheets lol!) But all my sculpting links are on my laptop and I can’t go on there right now.
But I can give you some sculpting tips of my own! Just don’t have enough time to type it all right now…I will later!
Haha, at least you tried! Are you going to buy some good materials?
Thanks so much, Izzy! I would love your tips and links. Looking forward to it!
I had the same urge and bought heaps of sculpting tools. I couldn’t get what I wanted right so at a doll show I asked bonnie brown what tools she uses and she showed me… A pin
That’s right a pin, a sewing pin with the plastic ball on the end. I was amazed that’s her tool. But I went home and started again with only the pin and bam I got a leg and perfect foot.
But then I had orders and other creative stuff needing to be fulfilled so I have only 1 leg.
Bonnie brown does have a sculpting photo album on her page somewhere I followed that too.
Yes I’ve read before all she uses is a pin! Amazing! You honestly don’t need fancy tools…I started out with a pin too. Now I have an exacto knife, a pin, pointy color shaper. clay knife to cut clay and a roller.
Post a pic of your leg! I wanna see!
She uses both. I run a doll show down here in Victoria Australia and she comes to the 2 shows every year so I get a lot of time to chat before the show opens. And she brings her sculpts she is working on. It’s fascinating watching her work.
Haha okay I will pull it out of the draw and get a photo. I did it over a year ago.
Aww, what an awesome story!! And funny too, because I was thinking that would make a nice tool. I would love to see it as well!
On sculpting…I. have done a few tiny dolls in the past. …but question to you who do sculpt…;
.I never found something that smoothed a tiny face well quickly…Id work and work.to get that smoothness…I had a round tipped quilter pin and toothpick mostly …they did fairly well. but Any other things that would smooth well besides a finger that is.?
Izzy whats a pointy color shaper?
It’s a rubber tool shaped like a pointy dome. For smoothing, use Vaseline.
Thanks Izzy.I never thought of vaseline!!
