I hope doll kits are exempt but my friend’s fabric and yarn are unfinished supplies she uses and she had to pay a tariff and a fee for collecting the tariff. Maybe the company she bought from used the wrong code? I imagine it is very confusing to everyone.
I only have 1 kit left to paint I wish I could have a paint stash like some people. But I do have 5 dolls available I’ll have Labor Day wknd sale for them so I can try and get couple kits on sale sometime.
Nervous as I had to buy mohair i by happiness on Etsy so hope all goes well. Hope tariff fee not high if get fee I spent around $50 shipped on mohair
I went ahead and canceled my pre orders @MacPhersonCrafts I hate to do it but it looks like we will be paying a 35% tariff along with whatever fee the shipper charges to collect it for Canada. I ordered two Rosie’s W plates so that’s an extra $105 plus fees as it stands. I just can’t pay 2 kits for the price of three and will have to live off my stash for now.
I think the only way that can happen is if Mac’s files paperwork to be billed the tariff fee instead of the buyer. I don’t see any tariff policy on Mac’s info page however they had a banner up saying no tariff fees when I preordered Rosie, which is why I ordered her, but I don’t see it now. Dee responded to my help ticket saying Brenda wanted to call me today (09/02) to discuss my wanting to cancel my preorders but unless there is some guarantee of no extra charges I will be canceling and forgoing preorders until the dust settles. I get big corps were using the loophole to get around tariffs but punishing small businesses that played by the rules with this blanket action is crazy to me. You would think they could come up with a more targeted solution than this! This will hurt so many of us.
Here is what UPS has on their website:
Changes to De Minimis
Effective August 29th, de minimis will be eliminated for all shipments imported into the U.S. regardless of origin country or shipment value. All shipments will need to go through U.S. Customs Border Protection (CBP) and could be subject to duties, taxes and brokerage fees. Typically, these costs are the responsibility of the person receiving the shipment.
I gave you a call earlier today…just wanted to touch base and let you know that everything is looking great on our end. We’ve run all the tests and aren’t seeing any fees pop up. We handle everything paperlessly and make sure all the info is processed ahead of time, so you don’t have to worry about any surprises.
Rest assured, we’re committed to making sure no one gets charged anything extra. If it ever comes down to it, we’ll even take on any tariffs ourselves…so please don’t stress!
I left my number for you to call me back whenever you’re free. Looking forward to chatting soon.
I wanted to quickly clarify the notice we previously had on Rosie regarding tariffs and the USMCA agreement. We are confident that the items are indeed tariff-free, and that the DeMinimis threshold wouldn’t affect this status. However, we decided to take the notice down temporarily just to be 100% certain…especially since there was a brief question around the (Emergancy Act) IEEPA. To be thorough, we’ve been running additional checks & so far we are good!!!
At the end of the day, please rest assured that we’re taking full responsibility on this front. I’ll keep you updated, and look forward to chatting soon!
Thank you so much for taking the time to research and test the system to see what is happening!!! I appreciate you going the extra mile so that we, on our own, don’t have to.
You’re totally right…it is incredibly confusing right now, and even the courier companies aren’t always sure how to navigate all these changes. I’m still in the process of sorting everything out for my other products like yarn and paint, so I completely understand your friend’s experience.
One thing I do know for sure…vinyl doll parts are definitely tariff-free, which is a huge relief! My only concern is always about possible human error, but thankfully we send everything through electronically in advance, which really helps minimize mistakes.
Honestly, what threw us for a loop last week was the whole IEEPA emergency tariff! But, from what I can tell, the original CUSMA~USMCA agreement seems to be holding strong and provides a loophole from our original agreement. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
The doll kits remain exempt, but yes, sometimes it all comes down to which code a company uses on the paperwork. Sending USA & CANADA lots of prayers & patience as we all ride this out together!
Hey Brenda sorry I missed your call. Okay that is what had me worried was when the banner disappeared. So just to clarify if we do end up being charged Mac’s would take care of it?
Thanks for your attention to this btw. I am so happy to keep my pre orders! x
Absolutely, you’re 100% covered…if any unexpected charges pop up, Mac’s will take care of it, no worries at all!
I checked on our Friday shipments and everything looks great! We’re relieved too…while the standard tariff was a breeze thanks to our product code, we did have a tiny bit of concern about that emergency IEEPA issue. Thankfully, it looks like our original agreement (covering USA, Canada, and Mexico) is holding strong. Phew!
Just a quick note: sometimes human error can sneak in as they are still fine-tuning the process, but we’ve put a lot of effort into making sure everything is set up at the warehouse for paperless transactions to avoid any hiccups or mistakes at customs.
Thanks again for your patience and positivity…so glad to have you still with us!
We will certainly honor all the pricing on pre-orders, and if any unforeseen expenses come up, we’ll take care of them…though I highly doubt that will be necessary. Your satisfaction means a lot to us, and we’re committed to making sure everything goes smoothly.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
So far, we haven’t had any reports of customers being charged tariff fees…even after the de minimis threshold adjustment. We’re positive that our product remains tariff-free, and everything we’ve observed supports this.
We completely understand the confusion out there, especially with mixed messages from shippers like UPS and FedEx, vinyl doll parts has historically been exempt so all current indicators look good for us.
We’re confident this situation will resolve itself without issue, but just to reassure you further: if any unexpected fees do arise, we’ll take on full responsibility and handle it directly with the customer.
Please let us know if you have any other concerns & if we can help!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m always happy to help and want to make sure everything runs smoothly for you all. If you have any more questions or need further support, just let me know…I’m here for you!
