Taking babies in public

I have someone who has been bugging me to bring my babies by and let her see them and my monkeys. I got orders for both. Do you find you get more orders if you take your babies out?

I dont think I could take a doll out in public. I am a shy person and I would no way be able to deal with all the crazy comments

Haven’t taken mine out “in public,” but have taken them to work (high school). I get the same comments, “freaky, dead baby, wierd,” but some positive comments and oohs and aahhs. I’ve been cautioned about doing it again as “unprofessional,” and feelings hurt at “get that THING outa here!” So I’m a little hesitant at taking them anywhere. My mom likes them, though! And hubby, since he’s got his very own Roberto Clemente!

You know what else freaks me out? Why are there no New Englanders on this Forum? Lots of folks from the mid-West, what’s up with that? Seems like it’s just me and Leslie Lil’ Lambs. Does EVERYONE live in OK?

Two times, I’ve taken mine out to show someone that wanted to see a reborn… Lots of mixed reactions… Lots of good things said and the usual That’s Creepy… I’m just not a person that likes to carry them around and show them…

Having said that…

I have taken my dolls to compete in the local fair the last two years… I did enjoy that…

Last night I brought my newest baby out to dinner with me, and the chef is now interested in me making him a portrait baby of his daughter! I can’t decide which sculpt would look best… I am thinking Kameko or Fei Yen though. Anyway, this would be my first custom so I don’t know whether they really do bring more interest/business.

tiffsberry2 did Milo as an oriental baby a while ago… she was just darling… here is the link to the thread:

My 12, almost 13 year old is a little jealous still of my “babies” so I haven’t taken one out yet. But the other week, she gave me permission to do it “if I had to…” as long as she could go off in another part of the store with Jonathan (a neighbor who goes with us to town - he’s 20 but autistic). So there is hope! Just waiting till the right baby and the right moment…

I love the Milo sculpt. I think it’s one of the most versatile!

Im pretty new to reborning a few months but i have shown a cashier and some people at a dollar store Avery when she remarked about me buying 4 sets of booties.
Seeing her they all were in shock and 2 were men who were as suprised as the ladies.
Id say 95% of the public or maybe 98% never heard or saw a reborn and it is amazing to them.
I saw the only reborn Ive ever seen in person …besides my own …15 years ago and i was nearly in shock and fasinated so to us common to others a rare siteing.
On anything there will be a few negative people but my thoughts are the people saw something in their normal day that was really different enough to be suprised so that makes it fun for me to bring them that moment
I picture a few saying at home…guess what i saw today? A doll that looked really like a baby!.
This Tuesday i intend to take Avery to see my church quilting lady friends.I know they will be suprised at her.
Next Saturday is my mothers 95th birthday party at a restaurant…Her present is Libby im thinking of taking her as if she were a real baby to give to my mom there rather than later
.I think she ll love the comments and interest shell get with Libby and i will too!
Because unusual to others might sell with a warning sign…".Keep this doll covered in a car or someone may break your window to save your “BABY” " lol
Sorry about this book size reply i…

I just went with my hubby to the Dr and I am working on a fairy. Rooting to be exact, white hair. People were very interested. Yes several windows have been busted out.

I’m from New England!! I live in CT…I have a friend that used to belong to our forum…She’s from New England also…NH. :grinning:
