Ive seen this mohair in pictures and it looks lovely and soft. I have been looking for some nice black mohair for one of my Halloween contest babies. First I tried some alpaca that I have but its too fine and delicate to root a larger baby…I tried anyway. I pulled that out and then ordered some black mohair from a German site (I live in France). The brand name was Pitter Patter…it was completely dry and frizzy. I tried to work with it and I just couldn’t stand it and pulled it out. I tried asking on here about HP Babylocks but got no response and Ive never heard anything about this hair and it is expensive as its only sold in 1.2 ounce packages. I decided to go with Susan Nagel from Secrest France as Ive heard people rave about that hair. When it arrived I was disappointed, it was also frizzy and dry but not as much as the Pitter Patter so I started to use it but quickly realised it was leaking dye. I tried to wash it and the dye just poured out of it. Is Susan Nagel mohair supposed to be like this or did they sell me the wrong hair??
I am going to make a video of me washing out the hair so I can show them how much dye leaks out…also If this hair is not supposed to be like this I will complain about that as well. Im thinking maybe they accidentally gave me the lower quality hair?
I think Im just going to dye some of my white hair that I have…I have acid dye…and use that but I don’t know if he will be finished for the contest
I would contact Susan Nagel. I’m sure they would want to know if they sent out a bad batch. I’ve never used her mohair. But I’ve heard good things about it. I seriously doubt they would intentionally send out hair with leaking dye. It must be a bad batch.
Now that Im comparing the Pitter Patter to the mohair I got that is labelled as Susan Nagel hair (Im doubting that it actually is at this point), the Pitter Patter is softer so Im just going to use it. Im just really angry because this hair wasn’t cheap. I usually buy hair from the lady that runs the German Heavenly Illusions website (she doesn’t have black). Her hair is always soft and never leaks dye! As a matter of fact, I have cheap hair that never leaked dye!! this is my first experience.
The only nice thing I can say about that hair is that it smells good. Does anyone else think that maybe they just gave me the wrong hair?
I don’t think it’s “the wrong hair.” Reputable distributors wouldn’t offer differently processed mohair. Their reputation means too much to them. They may have different prices occasionally based on the original quality of mohair. A champion goat would warrant higher prices. But the way they process it would be the same no matter what.
I think they sent you the wrong hair. I have owned many batches of Susan’s hair and never had it dry. Something is definitely amiss.
I am sorry this happened to you. Susan has many years of mohair experience, I also think you were sent the wrong hair. Not to say it doesn’t happen, I just can’t believe it was her’s. Take video/pictures before you wash it, then contact Susan on FB, she might be able to help you.
I don’t really know what happened but I will complain to Secrist and let Susan Nagel know as well. I still have some that has been untouched if they want me to send it back to them but I did wash and condition some of it and it is now soft and the dye stopped coming out so Im hoping i have fixed that problem as well. I pulled the hair out that I have rooted but Im going to risk it and reroot this hair now that its been properly processed. Is it possible that it was not processed correctly? …now that its been washed and conditioned its much nicer and soft, as I said. Also there was no dye running out after several hot water rinses.
OR maybe Ill just use the pitter patter…I can’t make up my mind now
