I thought I would share my experience of taking my entry, Sugar to the fairgrounds on Sunday, Aug. 30th.
As some of you know I had talked of entering her into the Fair and totally misread the rules and thank goodness my boyfriend read them and got them straight. Entry forms were due the 14th of Aug. not the item itself. That was due the 30th of Aug. Again, thank goodness my boyfriend read everything.
Sunday came and we went to drop Sugar off. Boy was I nervous. I wasn’t sure how Sugar was going to be received since I have never been out of my yard with my dolls. My neighbor and a few people that are friends have seen my dolls in person and the rest have been through the forum here.
Walked in got my entry ticket and was told where to go to drop her off. Boy was I so wrong in being nervous. She was a hit. I at one time must of had about 50 people around me looking at the baby. One woman said to my boyfriend she is beautiful and looks just like her Mama. Derrell, my boyfriend chuckled and asked her, “Do you think that is a real baby?” The woman looked at him wide eyed and said, “Yes!” So Derrell explained to her that it was a doll. She gasped and had to come over and look and gently touch to make sure she wasn’t real. LOL
As I am walking to the area where my entry was to go I felt like the Pied Piper, all these people following me. It was wonderful and hilarious at the same time. When it was my turn to turn her in. I set the basket with Sugar on the counter and she looks at me kind of weird and whispers, “You’re entering your baby into the fair?” I laughed and said “No, this isn’t a real baby.” She gasped and then said a very strange comment…Wow she looks so real, Oh geez I feel like I am going to vomit. Huh?? Ok out of all the people that have seen my babies, I have never had a reaction like that one. She composed herself and started to ask the formal questions about the baby, how it was made, what I used etc. So as I was answering her questions I had a judge standing next to me just studying Sugar. I then was introduced to her. She asked if she could hold her and I said sure and proceeded to tell her that she needs to be held as if she was a real baby, meaning support the head. She picked her up and said, “Oh my goodness, not only does she look like a real baby, she feels like a real baby.” lol
So as I was leaving I had a couple of women that have been entering in this particular fair for many years and they told me that they saw two ribbons in my very near future. I said, “Two ribbons?” They said, “Of course, a blue ribbon for winning the category and the President’s Choice Ribbon, which is a different color every year.” Wow I thought to myself. I thanked them and was so hesitant on leaving. Yes, the worrying Artist Mom. I looked in the direction of where my baby was going to be viewed and saw the judge still had her and was walking all over the area rocking and bouncing her ever so gently as if she was a real baby. lol
So Sugar is there and was judged yesterday, Monday Aug. 31st. I, unfortunately, will not know the outcome until the fair opens, Sept. 2nd - Tomorrow. But how I find out is by going to the fair. Well tomorrow I will not be able to go due to prior engagements and had planned on going to the fair Thursday. So, unless I can find some going to the fair Wednesday and finding out for me, I won’t know until I actually go to the fair. The waiting is actually killing me lol.
Here is Sugar - This pic was taken Sunday just before taking her. I did take the bow and pacifier with her and the women that volunteer taking the entrants told me to leave the bow in and to leave the pacifier at her side. I think the lavender blanket really made her pop and finally found a basket that wasn’t either out of stock or super expensive.
As soon as I find out I will let the forum know
She is soooooo cute. A sure winner. Can’t wait to hear the outcome.
Yay! Good luck!! She’s adorable!!
Thank you I am so anxious on finding out. I also miss her LOL!!!
How fun was that! Anxious to hear the outcome. Were there other reborns being entered?
@pia It was a very fun and wonderful outcome. No, no other reborns but I had to enter her in the category Mixed Media Doll. There were quite a few other dolls that will help with a competition since there are 5 categories in the Doll section. I hope that made sense. lol
That sounds so wonderful!’ I can’t wait to hear the outcome!!! ️
How excieting id be in pins an needles, I hope you took some cards that’d be great advertising!
Oh I am Angel. Actually I didn’t take any cards. You are not allowed to do any form of advertising or you will be disqualified. That is ok I am sure after the fair when I pick her up I may have opportunities to create some babies for someone here in this small town that has never heard of a Reborn Baby
Well, if someone gives you their telephone number and asks you to call them, wink, wink, to talk about dolls, you’re NOT advertising, just making a new friend who may (or may not) become a reborn Mommy in the near future.
I actually LAUGHED OUT LOUD when I read that!
HILARIOUS!!!
You have a winner there, FOR SURE…it’s only a matter of time and HOW MANY RIBBONS she wins!
Lololololol ️
How exciting! Let us know the outcome…I bet we hear WINNER!!
What a fun, validating experience for you! Since we are striving for realism, I don’t think you can beat that kind of response. Way to go! I hope she wins all the ribbons.
I know she will win-----I am so glad you decided to go with the lavender blanket I knew it would look good with her little outfit !! She is so cute, glad the VOMIT thing didn’t happen, LOL !!!
@MichelleP20 you crack me up! NOT ON MY BABY!!!
She will definitely win !! She’s beautiful .
Thank You everyone!
@kareninflorida Now that I think about it yes it is hilarious but at the time I was so taken back with her comment I wasn’t sure what to do or say. LOL I do remember asking her if she was alright because she did look a little pale and had her hand over her mouth. YIKES!!!
@MichelleP20 - Too funny!! Yes indeed not on my baby LOL
Aww you guys are too sweet - Thanks again on the luck and I just found out that they will open the gates at 10am for people that have entered items in the fair and want to see if you have won something. Tomorrow is such a crazy day for us I am going to try to fit in going over there. I am so antsy right now in trying to find out. lol
OH, you just have to go tomorrow morning! We are all on pins and needles now! (or is that rooting needles? Ha.)
She’s beautiful and no matter the outcome of the competition, she’s a winner for sure! Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with us.
Wishing you the best of luck!
@bebe - Aww thanks so much. You’re welcome, I thought the forum would get a kick out of it. lol I am going to try to get there.
@creativeamy- Thanks and thank you for easing my mind. I have been a bit worried about her. But I think she is in good hands. The lady did say that she was going to put her in a locked glass viewing case. Less touching that way.
