Starting over?

I am thinking about making babies again. I’ve started and stopped over the last 15 years just as a hobby. I used to be on here a lot, like every day. I never made enough babies to really sell and to be honest, I’ve given away way more babies than I’ve sold so this isn’t about me becoming a prolific artist. Even though I started way back in 2009, I’ve struggled with health problems especially back surgeries and it’s been a challenge. I started with air dry, then to Genesis, now back to a combo of air dry and Genesis. I just had a fifth back fusion surgery (hopefully the last) which fused about 2/3rds of my spine about 2 and a half months ago. Getting up and down with Genesis is still rough.

I guess what I’m wondering is if I’m crazy to be getting hooked back into it. In the off times, I’ve taken up acrylic painting on canvas, while laid up started watercolors, polymer clay…. lol, I go in spurts. And yes, all of it including reborning while lying down. Sitting for any length of time is literally a pain. I have fibro also. I have kits I bought as seconds, kits I have fallen out of love with like the first reborn kits Presley Awake and Asleep, kits I have been waiting until I felt up to finishing before I start them and on and on. Genesis paints, ultimate fusion paints, and different artist grade acrylic paints in different consistencies, bodies, needles , hair, everything. Has anyone else done this start over? Did you enjoy it?

If nothing else, even if I fail, there are people who are more than willing to adopt the babies at least. Yesterday, I even found a home for reject parts that are too damaged or too much hassle to try to repair. A very happy 30 year old guy with dreams of horror! I guess trying again is better than boxes sitting around until I decide! Not like it’s costing anything, well except the one I’m getting for Christmas from my daughter in law who panicked and told me not to buy the one I was debating!

I remember you! And I’ve had a similar situation. I just recently got back into reborning after a couple of years off. I missed it. I missed you too! You were so much fun and your babies were gorgeous!

So glad to see all of you still on here! I was afraid everyone else had quit too. Right now I am trying to finish up two of the BB play dolls, Blinkin who was a weird color but the darker skin tone covered it, and maybe another one. All for a friend of one of the neighbor boys family. Both “boys” are mentally handicapped to a certain extent so even though they are in their ‘30s, they aren’t mentally grown up. The play ones for his 3 year old daughter and his 9 year old niece. Niece may also get the other one if I can finish on time. Not rooting them. Bodies and eyes came in last night. Stuffing, etc, is buried in a closet that got stuff moved in front of it so they are going to love digging me out. I forgot how much harder it is for me to get AA skintones relatively even. I used Ultimate fusion on the play dolls to make their hair a little better. So it’s getting there.

Unfortunately I overdid it on Friday because two friends insisted that I help them. One in the morning who is bedridden and wanted company and the other was catering a small party and said she needed me to decorate the tables with the Christmas stuff I let her borrow. I’ve been in bad pain since to the point I couldn’t even tolerate riding to my first Physical Therapy appointment. So my up and down is very limited. That has slowed the baking down since someone else has to bake them. It also means I may not get to travel to see my other kids and grandkids at Christmas. At least they all live within 15 minutes of each other, it’s just they’re 3 hours away.

I used to come on here everyday and loved the companionship. I just need to remember to log on!

So far, I used Genesis to fancy up one of the pre painted doll kits that BB sold. They sold three pre painted versions. lol, I lost the body the day after it arrived and still can’t find it. I added more coloring to the hair and a few veins. My granddaughter has the same one and loves it so I’m donating this one to Spencer’s daughter. I also had a blinkin doll done with the old yucky purplish vinyl. I can’t count the times I thought about just using it for practicing hair painting. I decided to take a chance and made her more of a biracial color. Not too light and not too dark. I even decided to try hair painting on her. I ended up giving her to my 4 year old granddaughter who is also biracial. I forgot to take photos so I am going to get my daughter to take some so I can post them.
