Awesome. I will try it out and see how it works.
The combination of corn starch and diatomaceous earth works better at matting down varnish I think.
where to you buy this stuff?
Also does it need to be food grade?
I order mine on Amazon and yes to Food Grade.
I got mine off Amazon and yes I got food grade. I bought a 1 pound bag of it in 2019 and have hardly made a dent in it.
Now they sell it in a jar. https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Wisdom-Grade-Diatomaceous-Earth/dp/B00404X0AE/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Nature's+Wisdom+NW020+Food+Grade+Diatomaceous+Earth+1-Pound&qid=1629324958&sr=8-5
Thank you!
Yes I was wondering what is was also.
Interesting, I have food grade diatomaceous earth so I will try it. What is your ratio? Still 1/4 teaspoon but a combination of both?
Honestly I don’t measure, I just kinda put some of each in distilled water and melt it down then add varnish. Test it and if not matte enough add more. I tend to mix lager batches at once and put in the little disposable sauce cup containers to use on for a couple babies.
Is this the same as Americana Deco Art Ultra Matte? I bet this has been asked before, but I can’t keep them straight in my brain!! I have used this in two different containers, the first had settler to the bottom but the second doesn’t need stirring. The first was shiny, even with corn starch. The second container is very smooth and doesn’t seperate , very thick and creamy. I still add the corn starch and I really like it. The doll is not shiny and feels great, very smooth and lifelike. Sadly, it may depend on how old the product is, how is one to know? I bought both from Amazon, the first about 2 1\2 years ago, the second about four months ago.
DecoArt Media Ultra-Matte Varnish
with a bright blue and black label
I was able to score some deco art matte and when it got to me both jars had leaked and most of it was in the box. I was collected enough to make a full jar and I am requesting a refund for one jar. They want me to send the jar back! WTH? What a waste of resources, I took a photo of both jars, and the box.
all the varnishes with the same name made by Americana/DecoArt/Duraclear are the same varnishes. I have confirmed that with them twice now, once on this and in the past about the Soft Touch. What varies is their formula from batch to batch. I have found some batches to have more sheen than others.
This is the one I use and like with added corn starch. I don’t measure the starch and I also keep the unused varnish in a small container
I think this is the one @jlesser uses.
This is the one that was shiny for me. I did add cornstarch to it and used it on my Dryads.
I normally use soft touch in that brand over ghsp matte/satin varnish mix or reborn fx matte varnish
Yeah me to but couldn’t find any soft touch any where
Thanks jlesser I canceled my order.
