In my area we have a flea market one weekend a month. It is hugh. I haven’t gone to it in years but stopped by today. While I was there I got the information to rent a space for next month. I have never done this nor thought about doing this but I have too many dolls right now both reborn and others I am trying to clear out to make room for my reborns. I was wondering if any of you that may have sold this way could tell me what it takes to set up, how you display you dolls, how you show them to people without everyone picking them up, etc. Is it usually worthwhile?
I went to craft shows with my mother when I was younger and let me tell you people touch tear up steal any thing goes. And that is just the adults don’t get me started on what they let their kids do. My opinion a flea market people are looking for a bargain another mans junk is someones treasure type of deal. I personally wouldn’t put my dolls in flea market.
I agree. I don’t think you want to sell anything at a flea market. Look for local Christmas craft shows and try and get a table. The folks who go to those are more likely to have a pocket full of money or a charge card in their pocket. I think you will do better there. And set up can be as easy as a table with little blanket ‘nests’ for your babies with some boxes here and there just to change the elevation so they’re not all just on a flat table. If you have a shelf unit you can put that behind your table with babies on it too. Hopefully some of the gals who do shows will post their pics.
Also don’t be afraid to put a sign on your table that the babies aren’t for children to touch. You may end up with damaged dolls.
I would forego the flea market as well. But try a craft show that is juried. People who attend those know that the products being sold are not used or cheap!! I always bring my friend, Anna, who does my “dirty” work - - - - but in a very kind way she tells children why they should not poke the eyes or rub their hands all over the baby’s face and hair!!!
I used to go to what is called the Doll and Bear show. It was a good way to sale the mini bears I was making. They have strict rules and regulations. Most are to protect the people who are sale-ing. There are also craft fair’s at elementary schools or churches. I don’t think you will draw the kind of people who have money to spend on your babies. Unless the swap meet has a section of sellers that have only new products. I would only try it then. I would cover your babies with a sheet of tulle to keep them safe, with a sign saying please don’t touch. And make sure you have someone who can help watching them…
I agree with the other ladies. As much work and TLC as you put into one of these babies, sale at a craft show. You will find that people that are looking for that special handmade item will be willing to pay for just that. I also think it draws in the type of buyers that truly will see the hard work and beauty in one of these little gems~
Thank you all for your replys. I will certainly pass that up now and wait for the right type of show.
