Is there any problems with Secrist Kits that I need to be aware of? I am wanting to make one for my niece because they are cheap. But I don’t want to have to deal with a ton of problems. I use air dry and I won’t be rooting.
I have never worked on one but have heard that the kits leaked oils (?) in the past

the oil problem was a very long time ago.
I have reborn several of the Secrist kits in my early days. They are ok. Cheaper but not as detailed as a realborn or even some of the BB kits. I would go for a BB sale kit myself.

I haven’t done a baby, but did one of those American Girl type of dolls as a portrait of my daughter. The kit was really orange and kind of dark. My daughter is pale olive so I had to paint like 10 layers of blue with white added just to neutralize. If you get a kit from them, I hope it’s a different color.

It is for a 5 year old. So it doesn’t have to be perfect. She only wants one because her cousins and her sister all have reborns. Also I’m in Canada so the shipping from BB alone is $40.

You should be fine then. I’m guessing you are ordering through Macphersons. They have a selection of kits for under $50.

Yeah. The whole doll would cost me a maximum of like $80. While a BB kit would be like $150. She is a pretty rough child so I don’t want to put too much work and money into it but she is begging for one like her sister and her cousins.

Apple Valley Dolls by Secrist
This one is an big Berenguer head with Secrist 1/4 limbs
Secrist kits (most back then were 1/4 limbs) Some of them I swapped out and put Berenguer limbs or Citi Toy doll limbs on them so they would have full limbs.
Another thought, if you can find a Berenguer doll in your area to strip and reborn that would make a sweet baby.

They are pretty cute! I agree that the kits aren’t super realistic but you did a great job!
