For anyone who has painted her, I’m curious if you had similar issues with the kit or if i got a weird one from the factory?
Inside the mouth, she has a sculpted upper gum, but there is no lower gum… it looks like it’s unfinished, and there’s no defenition between the gum and the lower lip.
The ears seem unfinished on the lower portion where it meets the lobe.
I’ll try and add that pic in the comments as it keeps giving me an error. Also the limbs have a lot of excess vinyl on the flanges, and i had to remove/sand pieces of vinyl on the outside of the rim of the eyes.
Are you 100% certain you didn’t somehow end up with a knockoff? If you are, that kit is defective. The entire mouth is off and those don’t look like her ears. What do the hands look like?
If that’s true, then Irrestables is selling fake kits, which I don’t think they are. I purchased it thru them for a custom I’m working on, but once I washed it and started painting I really noticed all of the defects.
I wonder if the mold got broken at some point. If you look on Facebook, most artists hide the ear. And some of them look like they just did a great job shading it. I bet sometime after the prototypes were done it got broken and had to be fixed. Or maybe the prototypes are just excellently shaded too.
For some reason, sculptors don’t always sculpt the inside of the mouths well. I have had several beautifully sculpted kits that look like they stopped at the mouth and didn’t finish it. I can’t think of specific kit names right now for most of them.
Is she soft vinyl though? I’m always hesitant to buy Ping Lau kits because the batches seem to vary in stiffness. But the last few I’ve bought have been soft (Cai, Reine, Olive)
The head is not as soft as bb, but it’s not rock hard. The limbs however, feel like they have a waxy rough texture… it’s hard to describe. I messaged Ping Lau about the issues, but i have no idea if she’ll ever read it
I have Sansa and looked at her. She looks exactly like yours. My vinyl is super soft, including the head. Much softer than BB. Flanges has those extra vinyl, but because it super soft I can cut it out or leave it as is.
Well I’m somewhat reassured since yours looks like mine, however, I’m not really happy with the mouth and ear… there’s no way to make those chunks of vinyl in the mouth look great😔
