Rooting help 😩

I can not Put a hair :sob::sob:. I have a needles 42 3b …some tips please :weary:(I’m a beginner)

I would make sure the head is warm and look at the needle. There is a little dent in it, you have to use that dent on the bottom to grab the hair.

If you have a hearing lamp or rice sock or gently heat your head in nuwave to warm up. Try both ends of the hair. One will grab and one wont. Not sure why that is lol.

Rooting human hair is hard. I was trying today and didn’t get very far. Started with a 40G regular and hardly picked up anything. Switched to a 38 one barb and was picking up almost every time. Some people took with forked needles, but I hate those and don’t use them.

I read somewhere to dampen the hair, but have not tried that yet. Will next time.

Are you sure the hair is not upside down. It doesn’t work if it is the wrong way. Push your needle across the end of the hair and pull back if you don’t get a hair turn it the other way and try again human hair it the hardest. It’s so worth while to try good mohair

My understanding is that with the forked needle you have to find the ā€œsweet spotā€ and then mark the tool so you will always have it turned correctly. I purchased the tool and the needles, and so far I have not found the sweet spot… I think it is different for different folks. I have been using a 6 barb needle, and I have been told that they root in plugs and not 1 at a time. Mine started with plugs, but it soon turned to getting 1 hair at a time. I could not believe it. But, I HAVE read and heard that human hair is very, very hard to do.

I usually use a 38 gauge spiral needle. I like the spiral needles because the barbs are at different levels so if the first one doesn’t catch a hair the next one does. I use small bunches of hair and only poke 1 or 2 times before moving the hair. I just can’t get the hang of the forked needles. I can’t even see the fork, never mind keep it turned in the right direction. I’ve rooted human hair and didn’t find it much more difficult than mohair. It is a little slicker than mohair so it doesn’t stay together as well. I tightly tie small bunches by wrapping thread around it in 2 or 3 places and then root like I always do. I tie my mohair bundles also. I have almost no waste with this method. I also don’t heat my heads. I fill them up to the neck flange with poly pellets then pack them tightly with paper towels. The firmness keeps the vinyl from ā€˜giving’ so needles don’t bend and break as easily. When I’m done rooting I pour the poly pellets out and re-use them.

@jeanhai poly pellet method is the only way I can root! She taught me this years ago and I LOVE it!!!
Xoxo @jeanhai

When you say ā€œspiralā€ are talking about the 6 barbs? Or is there yet another type needle I don’t know about?
