Renting. Lol

So I just had a lady ask if she could rent one of my reborns. For some film school project.

I’ve never been asked that before. But it made me laugh. I said no tho. I can’t sell a doll after I let someone use it like that.

I sold for movies and one time I rented like 5-6 of my dolls at the same time . They paid me well also when I sold the dolls I mentioned in the add. ( they paid well so worth it )
( I learned that best to give it to them the doll naked in a blanket a they use their own clothing to dress the doll )

The reason they try to rent stuffs because they don’t want to store in wearhouse or deal with the resell .

Also Susan Gibs who well known is silicone word rented out one or two of her babies to movies .

Eh. They wanted to rent him for less than half of what I am asking for him. Its not worth the risk for less money.

I’ve had tv shows purchase dolls from me outright. But I’m not about to rent some college kids a SOLE doll for less than half his selling price.

I directed them to reborns.com so maybe they will find a less expensive baby there.

@Gabriell has rented babies out for productions before.

That’s great for cinema or tv show ! But for a school project ? Who can tell it’s legit and not a new way to scam ?

I would be willing to do it on the condition that they left a deposit for the entire price of the doll. When it was returned in pristine condition I would return all that was not part of the cost of rental.

They actually wanted a silicone for less than half the cost of a reborn. Lol

I suppose the positive is I was able to educate them about the costs of silicone and reborns and warn them about the China scams.

I’m not willing to rent to them. But I kept them from wasting money on a scam so its cool. I just think they need to get a cheap doll from a store. Its a college. Not a movie or tv show.

the real movie people pay deposit in cash, also you sign a contract with them .

Where I live we have a lot of film students. My son works with cinematographers. I love leasing and loaning babies.

They usually have a PA or prop master.

I will sell babies after a project, I do disclose. I get the babies back in perfect condition.

I take a deposit, I return it when the baby comes back. If they are students or it’s a community play I don’t charge them. Hey when they get famous they know where to find me. (Smile). It feels good to support other artists.

Some productions will just pay for the baby and keep it in props but they are picky and in a hurry.

The jobs are less and less because prop houses and staff fx are making their own silicones in house.

I know a lot of artists in this community who can do better work. Babies are one project for them but babies are everything for some artists in this community.

The babies students use are usually kept in their covered tubs and treated really well. If they use make up tell them to let you remove it.

I have been asked to sign an NDA, and that the doll is the property of their company, I keep no rights to it.

I did an insurance ad, no contract, just shipped baby and they sent a check, never heard a thing back.

I’ve sold a toddler doll to a tv show. They bought her outright. The only reason I knew it was for tv was because they asked me to rush ship her and told me she was needed for a show. Once I printed the address I was able to trace it back to a sound stage for HBO and from there to the show it’s self.

I’m all for supporting artists. I’m just not going to do it at my own expense. They wanted the doll for less than asking price and I’m not comfortable lending people I don’t know valuable work. If he came back damaged that’s a big loss. Or if he didnt come back at all.

The girl was nice and very flattering about how much she liked my work and how the doll would be perfect. But…if its so good and all. Pay for it.

Lol

"I am just not going to do it all my own expense " Not at all they have money !!!

The movie people told me they don’t really plan ahead so that is the reason they ask you for overnight shipping etc.

Right. And again. I have had a tv show purchase one of my dolls. And I had to overnight it. It wasn’t for a show I watch so i I’m not sure where they used her.

But what they didn’t do was ask for a rental at a discount. Which is why I said no.
