I think Im out of primer and i need to start this doll. Can i use matte varnish or something instead?
You can. You can use any medium such as Golden fluid Matte medium or Matte gel (not the extra matte one). Just read on the label and see if it says it can be used as a translucent ground. That means primer. A cheaper alternative is Jo Sonjas Glazing Medium. It is a thinner application but I know of one that uses it.
