It’s ridiculous. They are all over. It’s daily someone posts a ISO showing the scam site, or wanting highly realistic rooted silicones for $200 or less.
And when you try to explain the cost/the real pricing, you get jumped on and called a bully.
So many are saying forget it and recommending ivita for those who want a silicone but on a cheap budget, same with saying the knock off kits are good for kids or to practice on. Countless “artist” (I say this lightly) are painting them with no issue and claiming as long as they don’t call it twin A or Levi or April and just a doll, it’s fine
. There are plenty of things in this world I want but can not afford, doesn’t mean I’m willing to compromise my morals or integrity to get it.
Sadly not everyone feels the same
I just don’t get the “they’re great for kids” argument. There are so many adorable baby dolls out there that are actually safe for kids. Berenguer, Ashton Drake, Antonio Juan… Some are so cute that I’m tempted to buy them just for my collection.
They aren’t safe for kids tho. Who knows what kind of toxic stuff is in those fakes vinyl. Blech
This is why I left some of those scam reporting groups on FB, and why I got kicked out of a few others. They want to feel good in their negative choices.
I wouldn’t give one to my kids that’s for sure 🤷
I’m reading daily so many posting the fakes, calling them “dolls, pretty baby etc” then when someone points out it’s a fake, it’s oh well I can’t afford $100+ kits and I didn’t call it (insert kit name) blah blah blah. If it looks like a duck, quaks like a duck… surprise? It’s a freaking .
I’ve left countless groups because the admins don’t care. They allow fakes, scammers, young kids (13 or younger) and when reporting to admin (like their groups rules say) I get told to stop causing drama, if I don’t want to buy don’t but don’t say anything.
KNOWING dang well, these people who defend and buy this , if it was THEIR hard work and THEIR sculpts being STOLE causing them to lose money (and even worse the heartache of seeing people not care about your hard work) they would be livid in groups crying about it.
Today someone told me “I can’t afford a real April, so I found a new beginning artist who painted my fake as practice for a good deal. Sorry I can’t afford the real deal, no need to be a b**** about it. I’m sure there are things you want you can’t afford”
My answer? Absolutely there is tons I want, I can’t afford. Doesn’t mean it makes buying a fake of it ok. So just because I can’t afford it, does that mean I can walk into your driveway and steal your car because I can’t afford a new one? Same thing!!
No reply. 🤷
I have absolutely no sympathy for this excuse they make. I sold top quality used clothing on eBay for a year to save up the money to buy my first kits and supplies to reborn. Then when I finally was good enough to sell a doll for $100 I used that to buy any other supplies I needed. I worked to get the proper supplies and legal kits. Their excuses are lame and I believe people like this are not just dishonest but very lazy.
I totally agree @InfantInspirations! I have sold my entire Baby Alive collection and some of my childhood toys and my deceased Mom’s Marie Osmond porcelain doll collection to pay for kits/supplies. If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to get it. I’ve sold priceless memories to be able to create new ones and leave my legacy behind in the dolls I create.
Also, the main reason I started reborning besides my hubby saying I should try it cause he thought I’d be good at it…is I want a realistic reborn toddler. I knew I’d probably never be able to afford one, so I started reborning to eventually make a realistic toddler for myself. I’d rather make my own toddler and it not turn out as beautiful as what I want, than settle for some knockoff that is worse quality than what I can do myself and hurt a talented sculptor in the process. I don’t mind saving and spending money on quality, rather than contribute any money, that keeps these fakes and scammers in business, on a doll that isn’t worth the materials it was painted on.
I see it all the time! So frustrating! I try to warn people but don’t do much good
I do it all the time and also comment on their sites that they are fake and try to save people from getting scammed!
I’ve left comments that they are scams too. Comments like that get deleted quickly, but it’s still worth doing.
If there is somewhere to leave reviews DO THAT FIRST
That doesnt deleted when blocked.
I am blocked by most scam pages… lol
I’m considering creating a FB group just for outing those who sell these knock-off kits with their lame excuses. I don’t like liars and I love to defend the truth. I don’t want to see our art destroyed by those who have no respect for it.
I know the scammers are terrible and such, but I can’t help but laugh at the weird stuff people receive. They’re so incredibly bad, it’s unbelievable.
Sadly the “price too cheap for silicone” will not work. People have no idea of what it cost really. A lot of people still thinkthat 75-125$ IS a lot of money for a doll.
Every day they post on Facebook groups wanting a reborn or silicone for under 200$ because they don’t want to be “scam”.
THEY WILL NEVER LISTEN until they where being scammed 2-3 times…and even then, they WILL NOT UNDERSTAND the value of a reborn or silicone doll.
So,lets be real, even with our best efforts to help and warning, they will be scammed.
Like children, they learn by their mistakes, we can inform and warn and whatever, like children they will want to see by themselves and never believe us.
I think it’s odd people still get scammed. You can literally Google ‘reborn scam’ and the warnings start popping up. You can Google the website, warnings will pop up. You can look up anything about reborns and you’ll realise they can’t be real.
I just can’t imagine that you see something that costs $100 and just buy it from the first website you find without doing any kind of research.
Exactly.
I found this, she’s an Ashton Drake doll so how come they haven’t stopped a fake company selling their dolls? Or fakes of their dolls?
