Puppet Baby - What do you think of this?

I have never seen a reborn like this before. Its super cute but I am not sure what to think of this concept yet lol

I bought a couple of those. They are weird. I couldn’t figure out how they were supposed to work. Then I saw the instructions. You have to cut the flanges off the arms. And then the cloth body arm goes over the vinyl and you tighten the zip tie over the wrist. They come with a little pouch to stuff the body. But it’s a very small pouch. So it’s pointless. The puppet is an empty blob without your hand in it. Not cuddly. Just a floppy mess. And with your hand it’s hard to make it move. Your fingers have to be in an awkward position. Not really the same as a regular puppet because your finger has to fit in the vinyl arm and if you bend it wrong the arm looks deformed. To me the whole thing seems like a bad design idea. :woman_shrugging:t2:

Not only it’s a bad concept but they sell those with closed eyes heads… Who want a sleeping puppet ?
It would be better just to sell the body.

I agree. I think one is Mini Arias head. I guess I can go ahead and paint them then stuff the body and stitch it shut. They would be cute play dolls. But wierd puppets. You can see in the video that it doesn’t move right. The one arm stays up and you you can see weird lumps in the torso.

I had a puppet baby doll about 35 years ago. There was a blanket attached with a hole for your hand. It had 1/4 limbs so your fingers were the arms and you could bend them. When you put your hand in and wrapped the blanket around the baby you could make it look like the baby was really moving, especially if you put it in the crook of one arm and manipulated it with the other. It was probably a 12-14" doll. It was super cute. This one wouldn’t look as odd if it was wrapped in a blanket.

I don’t think it moves realistically. I’d rather have a baby to cuddle.

I painted one for McPhersons. The sculpt is really, really cute. The puppet is an interesting idea. I have a video to make and a photo shoot to do, I will post it all here. I think these little babies would be perfect for younger girls (6-10) they are perfect for small hands, super sweet, they can be wrapped in a blanket, have a little weighted pad inside them.

I think they are kinda challenging for an adult hand.

I kinda want to order a bunch of them and get bodies for them, the sculpt is adorable.

They are priced really well.

If you do a kids reborn class this might be a great sculpt, price point, small, kids could paint them easily during a workshop and get them complete.

OMG, my daughter Aly had this one too, she named it “Poorchild” we still have it in our attic. It is the same principle.

Mine was similar. I still have it packed away somewhere. The doll in the video is too small for an adult hand.

Hahaha I think I still have mine in the attic too. I named mine Bonnie cause she was blue, cause Bonnie blue from Gone with the Wind

I had one of these. Mine had a pink blanket and I named her Kassandra. Every little girl I knew had one. They were probably all made by the same sweet little old lady.

I still have mine packed away! I love these! Much better concept with the softness, the blanket and 1/4 arms…

It needs to have open eye or the awake/sleeping eyes to be more realistic moving like that the eyes should open

I still have mine! I played with it all the time as a child.

Yep, I remember
Had one of those myself, I loved it. I believe it was back in the 1970’s

I wonder if we can do this our selves? Just cut a slit in the back of the cloth body, a full limbed body, then put your fingers in the vinyl arms and one in the head. I guess it would only work with a preemie unless someone has huge hands that can support a full sized newborn lol

Oh that ones cute, like the vintage soft Little People dolls (that later became Cabbage Patch dolls)

Mine went back further. I think it had a vinyl head

I can see how a kid would love this, but yeah it really should be an open eyed baby. Unless it’s designed for children and the eyes pose a choking risk.
