Are babies still selling for full price or are any of you finding that you need to take payments because people are not recovered from their holiday shopping?
I think my price is reasonable on this one. Actually very reasonable considering what I’ve seen out there for similar prices and way more, but all I’m doing is sifting through a million messages from people asking me to take payments.
I tried before, but it was a pain. I like to paint, not chase people around to keep their word. But if I have to this time of year, I guess I will consider it. This baby takes up too much room in my nursery.
Before Christmas I had several needing payment plans. I had one after Christmas. But she ended up paying the baby off within a week. The other two I’ve sold, the customers just paid without asking for any payment plan. Meanwhile…2 little Christmas babies are still sitting there getting favorited but not adopted. I see people are looking, because they do favorite them. But nobody is buying them. Probably time to change their clothes and take new pictures.
Do you have problems with your payment plans, @Katinafleming? What left a bad taste in my mouth with this was a custom, actually. The woman would not answer my questions, would ignore my invoices for a week or two at a time. Even when I was finished, she ignored my request for final payment for like a week or more, said nothing, then just paid. That doll ended up getting shipped back to me because her PayPal address was not even right.
So overall, I have had a bad taste in my mouth since then. People frustrate me.
The likes on reborns throw me off in a way. Sometimes my dolls sell so quickly that there are only 1 or 2 likes. Then there are other times where they sit for weeks, but have 20 plus likes. I can’t help but wonder if everyone likes, why no one is buying.
I have sold babies from my fb page and from reborns.com but people don’t buy as often as they just like the doll. I have only done payment plans twice and both worked out ok for me.
I love your photos too! I am helping a lady find a baby since I cannot paint one for her in time. I am amazed how poorly detailing is photographed. Now I know some things are hard to capture in photos but I am afraid to recommend so many babies that might work for her because the photos are just so bad I cannot tell how well they are painted. Your baby was beautifully photographed and I could immediately tell she was painted very well. I was keeping her in my mind in case I come across a perfect mommy!
Payment plans don’t leave a bad taste in my mouth. But customs do.
All payment plans I’ve done have been on already completed dolls. The amount I require down varies on my personal financial needs at the time we make the agreement. Beyond the down payment, I’m very flexible. They know the doll won’t be sent til it’s paid off. They also know no money will be refunded to them. I feel like that’s enough to keep them accountable. I send the invoice allowing partial payments. Then I let them pay whenever and however they want. I have one doll that’s been sitting there for about 3 months. She pays sporadically. But she makes sure I know she still wants the doll.
As for customs…I avoid them. I did have a little girl ask for a custom Kenzie. All communication was through her mother. This girl saved up her own money to buy the doll. I told her I had a Kenzie kit and had been wanting to paint it anyway. So I told them I would paint it and give them first option to buy. I painted it. Then I sent pics to see if they were still interested. They were. They wanted blonde hair and blue eyes. So I started rooting and sent more pics. They were still interested. Finally when it was almost done, I decided a price and accepted thier payment. This is the closest I’ll come to customs. I’ll entertain suggestions from customers. I’ll paint the kit they want if I have the kit and am in the mood to paint it. I’ll send pics throughout the Reborning process. But I won’t even set a price or take a payment til it’s done. I don’t like being locked into a preset price, and I don’t like being locked into a customer.
I can’t capture detail to save my life, but then again, all of my photos are taken with my phone. I have just been talked into an actual camera, so I am going to suck it up and get one this time. I’m not very tech savvy, so hopefully I can figure it out with the help of some YouTube videos.
Thank you, @CindyLouWho. I made the headband for my daughter, but got carried away, so that thing weighs a ton. I figured it would be better to use it on a child that wouldn’t complain about the weight.
beautiful!!! <3 Give her time, they all sell, some just faster than others
I shy away from payment plans with new buyers my regulars I will do them, but prefer payment in full, because of storage
Don’t be hard on yourself - your photographs are perfect and VERY detailed. You are always posing your babies in natural positions that they look perfect!
Seems like she is now reserved? I looked up 3mo Joseph and it says. If so I’m glad! She is gorgeous!
By the way I see lots of beautiful work. How do I find out member’s nursery names on here? I be loving some of your works and would love to browse your reviews.com page or something. Would it be in your profiles?
Yes, thank you @913gigi44. I accepted a half now, half next week offer. I was just getting bombarded with too many messages, so it’s probably easier this way. Now I can get back to painting.
There is a lot of beautiful work on the reborns site. I have been a member here for years now, so I just know who everyone is, but haven’t really thought about how everyone else can find us. Hmmmm… Good question.
Maybe if you started a thread and asked everyone to list their reborns site name? Unless someone else has a better idea.
