Painting Silicone!

Hi everyone, I just purchased my first silicone kit today! I have never painted silicone or used air dry paints. Does anyone have any tips or advice for me? I really need any input at this point! lol Thank you

I can see how ready you are to stop painting babies, @Sony72. :joy:

I am super curious about silicone. So curious in fact that I’m learning digital sculpting just to be able to eventually make my own.

Keep us updated with progress reports and lots of pics!

I was wondering what is ā€œdigital sculptingā€? Never heard of it. I’m old, sorry.

Here are some good tutorials. Painting silicone is very tricky and you have to measure precisely or it won’t cure properly. First you need to know if you silicone is platinum or tin. Each require a different kind of paint. For platinum cure for beginners the best paint is the preblended fusefx doll set used in the tutorials and you can get them lots of places. Also with silicone you need to work quickly and keep your pieces covered while they cure. Silicone is like a magnet for any and all dust or fuzzies in the air and it’s a losing battle when it comes to this getting in your paint but having a good pair of tweezers on hand is a must.
This is a free one from Macphersons showing how to use the fusefx paints

The tutorials by REAL go into detail about all of the information above and what products to use and exactly how to use them

Been thinking about doing this .but .my question…
How bad does it smell?.my brother has used siliacone for hobbies and ive used small amounts for grouting outside. He says the 2 part stinks horribly ive use 2 part glue …it smells bad Does this stuff.? .
.I tiled a kitchen wall once using tile glue…i couldnt catch my breath well for 3 weeks.Lung Doc said a reaction to it.Now lm leery of toxic fumes i had fans on windows all wide open too.

Platinum silicone and silicone paints have no smell. If you have any smell that would come from the thinners you would use to thin your paints.
Silicone used to make these dolls is very high quality that they use to make prosthetics not the kind you would find in the hardware store for home projects.

@lynn, there are programs for sculpting to use on the computer. You can start with a digital slab covered in mesh and manipulate the 3D image into whatever you want. I’m not young either and there’s lots to learn, but fortunately I have the assistance of someone who went to school for this and sculpts characters for video games…

Thats very cool Lynn

Do you know if ecoflex 20 silicone platinum? I know this post is a bit older.
