What are we using as paint stripper now that the formula for W&N changed? I use heat set and 91% isopropyl alcohol isnt getting very much off no matter how hard I scrub. I dont want to melt the kit or have it turn yellow…
I still use goof off from the hardware store. You just need to make sure you wash well with dish soap and then matte with a good matte because it leaves shine.
Thank you! I didnt even know that goo off worked. Ill try it
I think this works pretty well. Gosh I miss W & N

I am glad someone asked this question because I need to find something too. Does this one leave the vinyl with shine? I just wondered since it says the primary ingredient is acetone. I never stripped a kit, so I never used W&N. I have a remover that was sold at a reborn supplier that closed up, but I think it is only for air dry and I need to strip Genesis off a kit that someone else painted and wow is that paint thick.
I ended up going out and getting some of the klean strip once I found out that goof off had acetone. The smell is super harsh but it takes of the pain very well so its worth it ![]()
The Klean Strip says the primary ingredient is acetone in the link that was posted. Is that not the case?
I have a different bottle so I had to wait until I got home. It does have acetone, I must’ve not seen it when I read through the ingredients!! I haven’t had anything wrong with the kit yet, no melting, sticky feeling, or discoloring yet. It doesnt leave an oily residue but ill still probably put a layer of varnish before I start to paint
The stuff I tried called citristrip worked great. I don’t see any adverse reactions on the test pieces that I used it on. Also, it has an orangey smell which is way better than some other things. it has a warning on it for dangerous fines, but acetone is also dangerous to inhale continuously…I just strip parts outside or in the garage with doors open.
Thank you!
I am worried about shine on this kit because I am going to need to air dry paint it so my matting options are limited. The previous artist baked it too long and it started to get shiney. I am not going to put it in the oven again. I am only going through all this for a special client. Thank you for sharing this I may go with it if there is no shine.
I would try it on a test piece first, I’m not sure the outcome when repainting.
