I just started using liquitex professional matte medium and it is leaving a textured feel on the vinyl. Is this normal? I was using the flow medium that came with the waterborne airdry paints and it left a smooth to the touch finish. It doesn’t look any different but I’m wondering if this is an issue?

I have never used that but I am going to try it as I have been trying for years to get textured skin.

Are you using it as a sealer or mixing it with your paints? I use just a little Liquitex Ultra Matte Gel in my paints and it’s very smooth-no texture.
I’m mixing it with my paints. It’s also pretty sticky until it dries completely.
You might be using too much. What ratio of paint/water/medium are you using?
Usually something like 3 drops of paint, 5 drops of medium, 5 drops of distilled water, 2 drops of slow dry. Please let me know if there is a different ratio I should be using.
Try 1-2 drops of medium and see if it makes a difference. It doesn’t take very much. I usually make an ounce of paint at a time. For that, I use a petite pea size amount of gel.
Okay thank you! If I do that I would increase water to like 8 drops… is that ok? Or will it break the paint down too much?
Try it on one of the flanges without adding more water. If it’s too thick, add a drop of water at a time.

Yes I don’t know why I didn’t start with a smaller bottle since I’ve never tried it before. I’m hoping using less works a little better.
I think the difference is you’re using the matte medium liquid, correct? We use the Gel, it comes in a jar. It is really thick and you just use a little pea size amount (depending on how much paint you are mixing), mix it in with your paint and I don’t get any texture with it. Maybe this is the difference.

Yes I have the liquid not the gel. If the tackiness doesn’t improve I will try the gel and see if I like that better.
I had the worst issues with sticky paint and paint not curing properly when I used the Liquitex matte medium. I haven’t had any of those issues since I switched to the Golden mediums.
