Today I just unboxed a LOT of firsts…first AA reborn, first reborn rooted with Human hair, first reborn dyed with RIT dye and painted with Air Dry paints, and my first trade with another reborn artist. I traded my Groot cuddle baby for her. The artist I traded with is the one who also purchased my Avatar.
Introducing Aniyah, who is the BB Realborn Bryson kit. I will definitely keep updating how the dye holds up over time…especially since I like to take my babies out with me, who better to test longevity than me. lol
My mini photo shoot with Aniyah…I love her little baby hairs and pierced ears…I just love absolutely everything about her.
Nope…until I saw it on Facebook…I had never heard about this.
If you go to this post https://discourse.bountifulbaby.com/t/reborns-and-rit-dye/96987/4
there is a good discussion on it. There’s also a video somewhere on here where someone showed how they did it. I haven’t tried it, not brave enough to, but a friend of mine tried it after seeing Facebook posts in some alternative reborn groups about it. She’s done experimenting for now, but we traded babies so I could see how it was in person and to help me to have something to match darker skin tones with when I’m practicing.
This was the most interesting thing I’ve seen all day! The baby is beautiful, and I’m intrigued with the use of RIT dye! Wow! That’s so far out of the box, but I love the concept!
The artist made a boxing up video of Aniyah for her youtube channel and she briefly talks about the process of dying babies with the RIT dye if anyone is interested.
Since we traded babies, we each made a boxing up and unboxing video to make it a fun little way to tie back into each other’s channels.
Reborns used to be done with Rit dye back before the earths crust cooled. LOL!
No seriously. We did the Rit dye years ago. In my experience it didnt hold up. But I hope thats not the case anymore. It’s not something I would do. You get far more control of the color when you paint it…
That’s exactly why I don’t want to do it…no control over the color…you won’t know if it’s too light or too dark until it’s too late. My friend who did a couple of babies this way told me that overall it was more trouble than it was worth, but it was fun to experiment with.
If she’ll just last long enough to assist me with painting darker skin tones…I’ll be satisfied…though it would be cool if she lasted for a long time. I’m definitely keeping her apart from my other reborns and I’m being careful not to put priceless or high dollar clothes on her to avoid any color transfer from her.
It may be best for abnormal colors like green or pink or purple for alternatives. That is if the color doesnt eventually bleed out. I hope she stays nice.
Yep, as an old timer I remember the Rit Dye method. Does not hold up well over time according to what was said. Most complained that the dolls changed color over time taking on a gray tone to the vinyl. You also wind up with a baby that doesn’t have the realistic lighter palms and soles etc. to start with because it dyes the whole baby. It is a way to get an over all very dark baby if you are not adept at painting the darker skin tone. I did one this way many many years ago. I did sell him and have no idea how he held up long term. When I heard it was changing color on others I never did another one this way because I did not want my reputation as an artist to suffer because of it. Looking back, to me he has a bit of a gray tone already honestly but then this was 2007 and I was not good at AA painting then either which was why I tried this.
These pics were taken with a very cheap point and shoot Coopix camera.
