My 5 year old's first Reborn!

Hey everyone!

I thought you might enjoy seeing my 5 year old daughter’s “Reborn” attempt. She drew hair on my 2 year old’s very loved doll. I was afraid to compliment her on what a good job she did, as I did not want to encourage her to color on her sister’s toys, lol. Maybe I should get her started in Reborning. Do you have kids that Reborn? If so, I would love to see pictures!

Sincerely,
Jessica

You should get her an inexpensive kit and let her try it.She might be the youngest reborned ever.

I agree buy a cheap kit for her and set a time were you and her can work on her first baby. Maybe by 2 kits so she can make a special baby for her sister to replace the baby she drew hair on and one for herself.

I don’t agree with a thrift store doll or a garage sale doll to allow her to paint on as it would encourage her to paint and draw on toys.

However a blank unpainted doll kit is different as she has to paint it before it can be a toy.

By having her paint a baby for her sister to replace the doll she drew on may actually help keep her from drawing on another toy of her sisters. The second kit would have to be a surprise for her or an award for be responsible and replacing a baby for her sister. You can either paint the second kit for her or let her paint it for herself.

Thanks everyone! My 2 year old doesn’t seem upset at all about the hair job, thank goodness. She still loves her “Lina” (the doll’s name). I’ve got a few unfinished kits I set aside forever ago. Maybe my 5 year old can help me finish them! I had a lot of fun Reborning with my mom when I was a kid, I’m sure she would love it! Sincerely, Jessica

LOL! You should try selling it on ebay! Seriously, there was a doll on ebay recently that looked like that. It sold, too! I think for about $60 or so.

I think that’s a pretty darn good attempt for a 5yo, she’d probably enjoy making a baby.

She colored all over the face on the front, so I didn’t take a picture of it, LOL. I’m not even sure where this doll is right now. My 2 year old seems to have a secret hiding place that no one but her can find. The doll is probably with all of her pacifiers (she doesn’t use them anymore but still treasures, hides, and protects them).

A five year old that is showing that much understanding of hair direction needs to be encouraged in her art. She is showing a wonderful eye for shape and an understanding of pattern. This is very advanced for such a little child and I am quite serious that she should be encouraged. I like the idea of her doing a doll for her sister to replace the one that she drew on, because, you are right. You can’t give an okay to that behavior. But at the same time, her aim and goal was probably to make the dolly look better the way mommy does. So you have to handle this just right to encourage one thing and discourage another. These are the lovely dilemmas of motherhood!
