I melted my baby Yoda on his first bake, I’m so sad! I had a couple of videos recorded before and after taking him apart, I was going to record the whole process… I wanted to paint and root him, and I’m getting a special cuddle body
from @RoseannsBoutique. I stripped off the factory paint and sealed him, then he melted on my first bake… I kept going out and checking on him, the temperature never went too high according to my oven thermometer. It was the last 5 minutes that did him in. He’s melted and cracked, the vinyl is super thin.
Anyway, if you are going to reborn Baby Yoda I recommend air dry paint. I ordered another Yoda, he’s only $25, but I’m not going to reborn this one. I am going to weight him and put him on the new body though, he’s pretty cute even without being reborn.
The vinyl tears really easily, it’s so thin. I could try the putty but then I’d have to paint it to match, and heat the head to re-shape, but his head can’t take the heat… Someone might be successful baking him if they stuff his head and support the back of his head with cloth in the oven, but it’s risky, I melted mine on the first bake at the correct temperature.
I just baked mine at 265 for 8 minutes and he survived. Smells like lung cancer though I propped the head up on sponges to allow the heat some way to escape.
I thought about leaving the factory paint, but didn’t. Do you think the Windsor and Newton brush cleaner I used to strip him could have damaged his vinyl? I’ve never heard of that happening, just wondering if anyone that has ever heard of that?
W&N is some pretty serious stuff. I have had it melt old Berenguer eyes into goo. How do you get the eyes out??? I am fighting for my life with these white things
