Mars Black vs Carbon Black

Does anyone have a jar of both mars and carbon black, and could tell which is a darker, truer black? The little color swatches online aren’t very helpful. I’ve been using mars black, but would like to get an idea if maybe carbon would be better. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don’t have carbon but I think it is the true/darker black.

Carbon black is the darker one in my opinion.

Carbon Black is darker and has a stronger pigment, it is also very neutral. Mars Black is somewhat weaker in pigment and has a distinctly warm undertone especially if it’s against or added to other colors.

Carbon Black is true black and Mars Black has brown mixed in.

Thank you guys for the responses. That does make alot of since. I’ve always thought my Mars black looked kind of ashy, not really true to color. So carbon black it is.

Mars black is burnt umber and ultramarine blue mixed together.

I have both. Carbon Black is a truer black while Mars is like a dark brownish black.
