LouLou is awake! šŸ˜

Yes, there is no perfect system, because humans can screw up just about everything. However, capitalism, as it actually should be (an economic and political system in which a countryā€™s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state - Oxford American Dictionary) and not taken advantage of or abused by corrupt people (and not all in capitalism are corrupt), has been the best system over hundreds of years of history. Perhaps a better way to put it is ā€œfree enterprise.ā€ That is one of the best ways to do things. People are free to start their own business, which by the way often makes jobs for the rest of us instead of just working for a government system that holds back advancement and freedom (a universal human right). A free society allows us to decide what car we want to purchase, what kind of house or if we want to live in an apartment instead. What kind of job we want. Itā€™s a system that offers the most freedoms. And I have talked with lots of immigrants who have said they are extremely thankful to have come to the USA, where they have far more freedom than in their former countries. Many of them were able to start a business here that was totally impossible where they came from.My great-great grandfather came from Ireland at the age of 14 and worked his way up in a way he could never do in the homeland. If someone is corrupting the capitalist system, then we need to out them and help people who have the right view of it to become successful and override those who want to corrupt it. Itā€™s not the system that is the enemy but those who misuse it.

All that to say that Iā€™m not going to speak of politics on this thread any further.

Shawn I noticed youā€™re selling babies. Can you please give me half of your money? Itā€™s not fair that your babies sell when I donā€™t have as much time to paint and therefore canā€™t sell any at the moment. We are both artists. Letā€™s be equal and share that money.

I found out I actually got sales a lot faster after upping my prices! I feel like it put me more in the range of serious collectors, that were willing to pay more!

Your work is gorgeous btw!

Unfettered capitalism is why the rental prices of a two bedroom apartment here have jumped from $900-1000 a month to $1400 a month in the last few years. Wages havenā€™t gone up enough to support this jump. Many are now homeless or forced to pick up a second job on top of their full time job. Lives are being spent working for a roof over your head with no time to spend enjoying it. It might be difficult for those who own a home to understand what itā€™s like out there for renters. Greed is a very human weakness.

Thank you so much. I will maybe try a higher price if my Delilah turns out good.

Wow, this thread has gone all the way to the left. First we are talking about Lou Lou being awake, then we are talking about people being wrong for selling their kits for what they want to sell them for (and Iā€™m guessing the buyers being wrong for buying them too?). Now we are talking about people working hard and being homeless (horrible, I hate this btw).

Not interested in getting into debate about anything related to politicsā€¦ Can we at least agree that buying a kit or a doll is a luxury, not a necessity? No one has to buy this ever at any price.

If the problem is a kit being sold on the secondary market for a price too high for a particular artist to make a profit on, get a cheaper kit and make money. Let the higher end artists tackle the expensive ones.

I do hear you all on not wanting to pay high prices for things. Who actually does? Iā€™m just not understanding why anyone feels like they get to tell someone else what they should and should not do with their own property.

Iā€™m selling my house. Itā€™s gone up in value. Do you think Iā€™m going to list my house for what it appraised for; for what my neighbors are selling theirs for? Or should I allow my buyer, who looked at land records and saw what I paid for it, write me an offer based on that? How crazy would I be to leave all of that $$$ on the table? Would any of you?

Back to dolls. Not that I have done this with a kit alone, but I have done this with whole dollsā€¦ offered them at really reduced prices because I felt badly for people who were struggling. They sold them for a profit. Bet the same would happen to these ā€œfairly pricedā€ SOLE kits that everyone else is getting all kinds of $$$$ for.

So well said. Just all my though on the subject as from the person who was raised and spent most of my life in the socialist country building utopian Communism.
Shawn on his high horse has no idea how people live in socialist countries and dream to escape to live in such evil Capitalism.
It sure one of the best thing that happened in my life (beside the birth of my children) that I was able to escape that damn Socialism and become a Capitalist citizen! I feel like a PERSON who is in control of MY life here!

Such BS! I came here with $200 and two children, without knowing English. Started with cleaning houses and serving tables. I educated myself in a language that isnā€™t required to prove my architectural engineering degree and became a C programer.
Why are ā€˜non-privilegedā€™ Americans failing and immigrants striving?

I hate politics! Sorry @Katinafleming, mudding your LouLou post, but that non-privileged entitlement always struck me the wrong way.

Many Americans are ā€œnon-privelegedā€ in their gimme/woe is me attitudesā€¦
I DO realize there are many people who DO struggle through no fault of their own and
there are people who DO need helpā€¦

BUT ā€¦(and I live in the biggest county in Ohioā€¦and it IS a welfare county)ā€¦MANY MANY
people just work the system and still cry foulā€¦

Bless you my dearā€¦I do believe YOU are a TRUE American!!!

Thatā€™s bc native born Americans arenā€™t taught government and history any moreā€¦and even if they were they JUST DONā€™T CARE.

Doesnā€™t matter if Yelena is white, green or purpleā€¦ she came to America to escape an oppressive government and HAS thrived.
She didnt get luckyā€¦I guarantee she has worked hard for everything she hasā€¦work being the key word.

I have some friends who are from Chinaā€¦yesā€¦they work hard ā€¦ their whole family doesā€¦and it is expected of their children to have a good work ethicā€¦to make good grades in schoolā€¦and they LOVE Americaā€¦I see MORE patriotism from immigrants than alot of Americans.

You donā€™t want to hear the reality either apparently. You have an immigrant right here in front of you telling you her story of success coming from an oppressive country and thatā€™s not even good enough for you because her success only depends on her skin color to you

Iā€™m from Texas. White folk like myself get passed up all the time in favor for Spanish speaking Hispanics. This is true in every job area. Should I blame my color? Nope. Maybe if I learn Spanish I could get the job.

And you explain to my adopted white son why he doesnā€™t free Medicaid and college tuition like his biological siblings. They will get it simply because their birth certificate says Hispanic. Nothing to do with their adopted familyā€™s circumstances or their own needs or abilities. They qualify based on Hispanic.

I live in an area that is poorer and has a lot of immigrants/people here on work visas. Itā€™s mostly hispanic people, but thereā€™s people of all colors. Long story short, people come here for a better life. Just because immigrants of color experience racism doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not hard for white immigrants to come here. IMO weā€™re more separated by class and money than by race.

My mom and her sisters are all immigrants from India and all have high power jobs while their white husbands have lower jobs. My Indian family is doing better than my white family. Poorer people have more in common with each other than everyone of one race does :man_shrugging:
