Lizzy Stoete is no longer SOLE

I questioned it and showed him my coa and screen shots of what Adrie had said. This was the reply.

I did mention that in my previous e-mail already about the higher numbers. There were about 225 regular limited editions sold, both Adrie and I couldn’t remember exactly and we couldn’t look it up as we didn’t keep the documentation as we did not expect to sell her again. She was not that popular at all actually when released.

We almost never used numbers of her edition in sequence. We did mostly with the first 100 but later sales, we just randomly used numbers in the range of the edition. Hence why you can have a higher number within the range. Sometimes we did that with dealerorders too. We used the first 100 ourselves and sent to dealer A numbers 500-550 and dealer B 225 till 250 for example. So never in sequence. Often we kept the first 100 for ourselves though.

The decision to sell Lizzy again was a mutual decision somewhere little under a year ago when we learned about the Lizzy copies around in mainly Brasil. Adrie was furious as suddenly 5 or 6 of our kits came as counterfeits at once and nothing could be done to stop it. Well, the problem is still there, no sculptor has found an airtight way to prevent the copying as they simply make a mold out of the kit. Speaking for ourselves the kits are so detailed that making a copy almost causes no deterioration in details.

As there are technically still around 400 that have never been sold, we thought to do it like this and make sure there are legal ones to prevent them from mass producing as there were no official ones around. Maybe open edition was not the correct word to use here and we should have called it numbered edition but then, we have no clue which numbers we issued and which not. Maybe we should have used different numbers above 625 but that would also have been weird. Maybe we could have explained upfront what’s happening but that is always afterwards and so far I only had a few people complaining in a weeks time and dozens of happy ones. That doesn’t mean I do not understand why you are upset though. But technically we are still selling within the edition and there will always be a difference between them as also certificates are totally different.

Hope this clarifies better about the numbers being used.

We did this numbering almost always like that. Also sometimes on request of customer that wanted their lucky number or asked for the final number of the edition. We always worked along with these requests. One of only times when we really used the numbers in sequence was with the limited 1st edition of Quinlyn. Those we really did all 2159 in sequence with no number unused.

There will always be a difference though between the Lizzy’s as the originally sold ones have completely different, numbered and signed certificates plus we had the 100 special editions only sold by us, those also came with a signed and numbered body and their own certificates.

Lovely greetings from The Netherlands,

Best regards,

I dont know much of anything as being brand new but the multiple mentions of “losing documents regarding numbering” will be the excuse here to do some shady profitting dealings.

This is simple.

Adrie passed.
Her family wanted a way to cash in on her talent now that she cant stop them.

This is how they did it.

I call bs on not knowing the numbers and having them sitting around unsold. Adrie woild have sold them herself. Not just keep them…for what?

I agree with you!

I do too. Unfortunately, they have the masses out there who just want the kit cheering them on so they use that to convince themselves it is all ok and we who are upset don’t really matter.

Looks like only Brenda and Adrie’s son?

This is such a dumb response and just excuses. If he wanted to just sell the “last 400” in the edition then why aren’t they sold by now? He’s just been holding onto 400 of an highly sought after kit for years?? And why don’t they have the COAs set aside with them? And if he’s saying there’s only 400 left then why is it now an open edition to sell as many as he wants? Makes no sense and he’s trying to profit from his poor mothers work.

I totally agree! I am so fed up with this kind of thing being done. I am of great respect to Bobbi and Esther for not carrying these kits!!!
I will still enjoy my favorite beautiful Stoete babies as I got my kits before Adrie passed away. But I will not be purchasing any more kits from her son for doing this.

I composed this email this morning and sent it back to him. It might be tart, but I think people who do this kind of thing need to be confronted on it.

I do wish to conclude that after reading your comments and discussing this with other artists like myself that have been long time customers of Adrie’s I do not find your explanations to be satisfactory. It makes no sense that Adrie would have agreed to any of this after she repeatedly said she would not ever release her again. It also makes no sense that she would have been holding on to the remaining kits in the edition for 10 years if she had not sold them all. I am of great respect to the 2 US dealers who will not be carrying this kit that was a closed edition that should not be opened now. You have also lost my respect and business as a customer. I mean no disrespect to your Mom and I will always cherish the kits I made into babies and kept before she passed away. But I will no longer buy your kits. I am sure you will do quite well with those who do because the same people who buy China knock off kits are dancing with glee to buy this kit so that is who you are supporting now.

And this was his final reply. I just think that the mindset that this combats copying is ludicrous and a slap in the face to those who bought the kit with COAs.

Hi Angela,

That’s a pity but it is how it went. If Adrie hadn’t passed, we would have done this earlier in the year, I think you can not imagine how upsetting and frustrating it was for her to see her work being copied and this seemed like a good solution to us to get the wind at least a little bit out of the sails of the copycats.

But enough said about it. I wish you a good weekend and enjoy reborning!

He is truly an “asshat” and his recent response to me is that he is only releasing the 400 that were never sold out of the original 625. He stated “there are no extra kits coming”…

Yeah… okay.

I know language may be a barrier but that is completely different than rereleasing it as an open edition.

But I hope that is what they do. - only the original amount without COA or maybe a different one unnumbered… but only 625 all together

I think they are changing their minds after not getting the full support they thought it would bring.

This whole thing is getting weirder by the minute. It doesn’t make any sense. One minute it says the kit was not popular, so never sold; next it says due to popularity it needs to be re released? Now it’s just selling off the remaining kits? So confusing.

That’s what happens when a lie is told…soon the story becomes confused. A few people behind their keyboards don’t bother this guy’s conscience. What a shame.

Julie, Adrie’s son is releasing it.

I speak Dutch and with the way he writes English I doubt there’s a language barrier going on here. He’s just inconsistent in his story. I bet he’s annoyed people aren’t praising him and throwing money at him, so he’s changing the story.

If he is only completing the edition (which I doubt since Adrie said she wouldn’t extend it when asked 2 years ago) then he sure needs to have Brenda change her marketing.

The Adrie Dolls site still says open 2nd edition.
