Lip painting

Hi,
I’m currently attempting my second baby. I’m following Jackie Kramer videos (not as detailed as hoped) and I’m having the hardest time with the lips. I’m doing Summer Rain, I love this one! I’ve seen different versions per artist. Her lips are a challenge!! Any suggestions? Pia work I absolutely love, angel is hard to see her mouth. The video says to use medium red, which I guess is a premixed color. I don’t want real pink or red lips, something natural. I’m already worried about the final look because the orange wash. Remember “this is only my 2nd” baby. Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated!!

If it’s heat set paint, I use genesis red with a touch of black to make the lip color.

Yes gasp, really black? Genesis red looks pink?? So do you make it slightly dark on inner lip with fanning out lighter? Oh and thanks for info

Yeah, Black makes the red a nice deep color that looks amazing. You mix them together and use them in such thin layers that it builds a nice realistic color. I also usually use light pink and occasionally a thin purple on the lips to build nice subtle realistic tones.
Just play around until you find what works, but remember, THIN layers are the key.

2 different summer rains. But both with same color paint. I start of with thin layer but still end up like this. Plus the lip line!! Can’t seem to get it!! I’ve stripped the lips about 4 times already. Think I need a brake!!

How thin is your layer? Are you using thinning medium or liquid thinner? The lips look fine to me, I would likely add a light pink super super thin over the lips. A little bit of a lip line is okay, I don’t see any issues with the ones you have, they look good to me.

I usually go lighter in the middle and pull it to the outside of the lips. I wipe off excess paint off the brush as i pull it from the middle.Everybody does it differently.

It starts off thin but some how looks hard as I try to fix it. No medium or thinner. In Jackie’s videos she says go straight to jar. Maybe adding thinner and multiple layers would be best. Thanks for your advice!! Sometimes 2 eyes are better than one!!
