Let’s show our WIP part 4 (Part 1)

I don’t think she’s horribly over mottled. If you added more layers of other colours I think it wouldn’t stand out as much. I’ve done way worse and had to try and come back from it.

Beesley (Willow) WIP

Had my father-in-law come into town unannounced, so didn’t get any work done yesterday…unfortunately Willow is not as far along as I wanted her to be.

Tonight I got 10 layers of mottling (2 layers of each of the colors I’ve used so far) and I started in with the purple on the eyelids, sides of nose, cupid’s bow (which is too tiny to see), and some more inner ear detailing (didn’t get pictures of that yet).

Due to my lighting washing everything out in photos…putting her in the oven was the only way I could get the mottling to kinda show for now, until I build it up some more.

Looks great so far! How are your hands holding up? I can’t wait to see him finished! I’m not typically a huge fan of alternative sculpts, but this little guy is going to be cute!

Finally Mathilda started cooperating and taking some color, well everything but her lips. I don’t know what the issue is with the vinyl on her lips but they almost look stripped? Every time I add a layer they get lighter and lighter yellow vinyl looking. I’ve tried using thinning medium, thinner and straight out of the jar, I don’t get it. I’ve had this problem once before with a Levi kit, but besides that have never had problems with Mac’s vinyl.

Maybe a layer of varnish ?

Great minds think alike  Her head is in the oven right now with a varnish layer on her lips  It didn’t work on my Levi’s lips, but thought I’d try again, as I don’t know if it’s the same issue or not, and the Levi lip problem was so long ago.

Aww…Thank you very much @Emma ! :two_hearts:

I think my right arm/hand is doing ok with this part of the painting process. I worked on her from 11pm to 4:30am (now I did bake her at least 3 times, so I had about an hour break for each baking cycle, which also included the time it took to cool down). It sounds like a long time, but really wasn’t.

Through loom knitting I found that as long as I’m moving my wrist and fingers in a lifting upward motion…I can knit for hours on end (with breaks of course). My hand was getting tired one night so I tried holding the loom at a different angle just to finish the row I was on, which had me looming in a downward motion…that caused pain and I only could loop over 2 pegs before I flipped it back the other way to just finish it up.

All that to say downward motions (like the way I paint) is what causes pain. Last night was mostly pouncing on the mottling and slowly building up the colors in the face, so I didn’t hold a paintbrush for long stretches like I did when doing veining/creases.

At least now I can handle more weight with my right hand/arm, so I’ll be able to start back on my Saskia once Willow is done. Thank Goodness that all her veining and creasing (except for her head) was done before my right hand/arm pain started, so I should be able to manage.

I love looking at all of this, I am soaking everything in!

Just in case you were going to up all night worrying about it, I thought I’d let you know the varnish worked!! These lips need a MAJOR cleanup, but at least they will take color now.

Something weird with the forum tonight, pictures load weird

Cuteness overload! I love him.

Thank you. Do the pictures look weird to you or is it just me? If I click on them then they show me the regular size but in the post they look super long and skinny

You are doing Amazing with Air Dry, it’s not easy to work with (I don’t think anyway), that face is Beautiful and looks like it was done with Genesis!! (that’s a compliment)!! lol

Thanks so much. I’m having fun experimenting with it.
