Let’s show our WIP part 4 (Part 1)

I’m ready to throw in the towel on nails. I cannot for the life of me get the lunula right. Three different styles of painting them and three failures, I’ve wiped them clean over and over, and just cannot get them right. The burgundy has continually blended into the nail beds (and they are deep nail beds on Shaya), so then I end up with an okay half moon but bad beds. There has to be an easier way to get this right. Does anyone else struggle this much?

Looking good

I do not paint the moons, I just do not add the nail color there. I also paint mine with thinning medium mixed with the color I want. Then the tips I use nail extender. Once baked I add a slightly darker line to define the moon area.
My phone sucks at picking up the details though… lol

Not finished just yet. My sister wants something similar to this. The hair has a nice wave.

I use black cherry prisma pencil to lightly draw half moon shape and then color above that, use the pencil for the nail bed color. I use a flesh color for the tip and then go back and draw a thin line under the tip with the black cherry. I don’t have a very good pic on my phone to show you but here is the Berenguer I just did with penciled nails. I don’t think I did a half moon on these though. Maybe just the big toe if anything

lol looks like I did do half moons

I did try not painting the lunula, just giving the illusion with a fine arched line, but it just didn’t look right. I also tried mixing nail tip with burgundy and painting the lunula, then outlining with burgundy - still no dice. Third attempt was erasing everything, going over the end of the nail with a base coat of red, and using a fine brush to make an arch. Nothing looks right with the deep grooves around the nail :woman_facepalming:

I never considered prisma… going to give it a try. I think I just hate doing nails as it is, so I always put it off as the very last thing before varnish.

I started with air dry. I love Waterborne paints.

Yes I’m using special care nursery paints they are really good a bit weak though but really good. I also water them down so that they arent too strong
