This is supposedly a prototype baby…um…ok. The photos of the prototype have the same scratches and other unique marks as the current owner’s photos, but wow! This baby looks barely painted and strangely rooted in the seller’s photos. Surely prototypes are higher quality that this…right???
I agree, does not look like a $1100 doll!
I would be sooo mad as a buyer…
Wow.
I would be sick. I mean, how edited were the photos? How much of prototype work is strictly photography? I can’t imagine charging $1100 for that or even submitting it as a prototype, for that matter. I guess I had it in my head that prototype artists were the best of the best and that is why they were chosen to do the prototypes.
@Peachtree that’s exactly what I’ve had in my head. But this truly makes me wonder. I enlarged some the pics - his fingers/hands/arms look like bare vinyl???
I follow this nursery (little giggles) and love her work, but after seeing that listing, wondered about how prototype babies look in real life. I get the photos need to be real looking to help sell the kits, but for those who purchase the prototype babies…are they worth the money?
I was looking at a prototype of Corvin on eBay and for over $2000…I couldn’t imagine spending that much and receive a baby that looks barely painted.
I have seen some prototype babies using the owners photos and in my opinion have seen much higher quality work from artist on this forum
Having a baby dressed in dark clothes or on a dark background will bring out the details more than the white but this baby’s hands look like they have one thin layer of red and that’s it
It doesnt look like its the same doll, strange. I dont know what to think. Honestly i dont think photograph can make that second doll look like the first one.
I have actually been wondering about this after seeing beautiful artist photos and not so impressive collector photos.
I also have a baby in my collection painted by a prototype artist. He is breathtaking, but my photos just don’t do him justice. In this case, his artist’s photos are a much better representation of his real appearance.
So overall, I’d say it can be hard to tell. I personally look for photos in several different kinds of lighting and good detail shots. I will also say that I think I’m noticing a bit of a trend as far as limbs go… lots of detail in face, very little in limbs.
It has the COA and birth certificate… with the prototype artist info
I had exact the same feelings and thoughts. And this is not the first prototype that I was wondering about…
Looks to me like the same baby. Everything is in the exact same place.
I’ve seen it before in listings too. Lighting and photography makes a huge difference. Someone resold a reborn of mine and added her own pictures. All I could think was “that’s not what she looks like!” even her skin color looked different.
I’ve seen listings with normal looking artist photos and then collectors photos where the babies look green, or yellow, or blue.
I’ve seen prototypes that I thought were phenomenal and others that I thought weren’t any better than some I’ve seen right here on this forum. So who’s to say what qualifies them as prototypes?
I struggle with this too. I see so many babies that are beautiful but in person may not look like the picture. I have only done one Prototype, I cannot speak for everyone else. The bottom line is that all of the work is art and painted, not real. The idea is that it looks as close to real as you can. Sometimes I feel my pictures are not as good as my work and pictures are EVERYTHING when it comes to being a prototype artist. However, i strive for the in person perfection.
I like to take pics with my babies so you can see what they look like compared to me. Also, if they look great with a cell phone they will be even better with a high quality camera.
I saw those photos on IG and wanted to write to you that this is the first Tink that I actually liked. All other Tinks looks like they scared to death and grabbing to their dear life with their hands (of course it’s only my vision and perception and I don’t want to offend any other artists). Yours actually looks like a live baby
Love your sweet tink! What size eyes did you use in her?
@Estelle85 that is the most real looking Tink I have seen. Her hair is just gorgeous… this is one look that you have totally nailed.
Thank you! Do you remember when I hated her. She is now one of my FAVORITE! In person, she looks better than I could have photographed her. That was a cellphone picture. I love her sooo much and almost ruined her because I wanted her to have eyelashes after she was finshed.
