Hi there everyone! I have a question. I was looking at an old tutorial I have and when I got to the skin tone part, it said to mix 2 brushes of flesh 05, 1 brush flesh of flesh 07 and 1/2 brush of flesh 03. In the tutorial, the artist uses heat set paints while I use air dry. Air dry does have the flesh paints but I feel when I mix the colors up, I don’t get the same color as the tutorial. I feel like mine comes out darker. Here’s a picture of what I am talking about: (Both pictures are from the tutorial)
Is there a color I could substitute it with? Burnt Umber? Sienna?
Thanks,
Julie
If you are trying to match that flesh 05 color, burnt umber is very dark brown and burn sienna is a reddish brown. Neither one looks anything like that. It is hard to say what to use not knowing your paint brand. Jo Sonjas has a somewhat similar color called fawn. This pic is from Dickblick website

Thanks Angie! It’s actually a mix of flesh 05, 07 and 03. I think that the fawn color looks a little similar. I also found a color called Opal. I forgot to mention I use a few different brands, Golden fluid, Rebornfx, Waterborne & Ultimate Fusion.
You will probably need to add one of your browns or darker flesh colors to the fawn to make the color you actually want but I did find that fawn to be a nice flesh color back when I was using air dry paints.

When you used it for a skin tone, did you use it for a Caucasian baby or a biracial baby?

Sometimes I used it on a Caucasian to tone and blend things. I am not one to use a lot of flesh tones on them though. However, when painting darker skin tones I do and I used it then as a color base and also to mix in with other darker colors.
