Introducing my new knitting model...my first mini silicone baby

I have been looking around for a mini silicone baby for a few months and saw a sale on Etsy by Silicone Snuggle Babies (where I got my first silicone baby) and just went for it. I needed a model to measure for knitting mini clothes. I love the little knit photography outfits, but I don’t find any small enough for mini babies (and if I do they cost an arm and a leg).

Now this first mini hat, was made before she arrived today…I had extra material and a mini loom to try it out. The size around her head on the inside is perfect…not too lose, not too snug. I will have to definitely make the hat itself WAY shorter, the brim smaller, and I’ll definitely try a smaller thread weight.

Despite all the little issues, what do y’all think?

This is my little 7 inch girl…the striped hat came with her, I didn’t make that one.

She’s a cute little handful.

She’s cute ! You definitely need lighter yarn. Have you the baby looms ? The small one is perfect for newborn socks and should be good for mini hats with regular worsted weight yarn or even baby weight yarn.

@Leabelle Thank you! I agreed with everything you said! I really appreciate it!

I took a picture of the loom I’m using…they called it a Flower Loom. It only has 12 pegs, but they have a wide space so that’s why I first tried the 6 weight yarn.

Went back with a 5 weight (though I personally feel it’s more closer to a 4 or less) and to help close up that wide space, I did the entire hat using a flat stitch instead of an E wrap.

What do you think of attempt #2? Does it look like I’m on the right track now?

I also just attempted a dress. I currently have no pattern, just modified the pattern I used for the hat. It’s far from perfect, but with practice and tutorials I’ll eventually get it. I just didn’t want her to have to be nakey until her custom onesie comes in.

Oh and Thank you for the sweet compliments on her @jeanhai and @Evee ! :revolving_hearts: She is a lot more adorable in person than the Etsy listing.

I love her outfit. You’re definitely on the right track. Baby yarn and crochet thread work well for the really tiny ones.

It gives stiches that are a bit tighter, like needles knitting. I use E-wrap or U-stich.

I think a hat for a baby this size should be made out of crochet thread to keep the actual “knit” of the hat to scale for the size of her little head. JMO

Hey @Leabelle, I had just ordered an All in One Loom before I saw your comment. Went back to look at what I ordered and it has pegs with the 3/8 gauge spacing just like the circular ones you showed me (maybe I’ll get those circular ones with Christmas money…unless I can figure out how to make little hats/clothes on the one I ordered).

@jeanhai and @lynn Please forgive me if I sound stupid, because I’m still learning and new to all of this, but can you use crochet thread on a loom? I’m assuming so, since you both suggest it, but I wanted to be sure. What size of crochet thread would you suggest?

Thank you ALL for your help/advice and sweet comments. I really appreciate it very much! :revolving_hearts:

You can totally knit a hat flat and sewing it.

As far as I know you can’t crochet on a knitting loom. Fingering yarn or super fine yarn are very fine and would work with a loom if the pegs aren’t too far apart. The one pictured should be fine. Size 3 crochet thread should also work because it’s close to the same thickness. With crochet thread, the lower the number, the thicker the thread.
