I am NOT cut out for reborning haha im too emberessed to even show just take my word its ugly lol
What type paints are you using? What are you applying the paint with?
Ghsp and im using paint brushes
Did you use Genesis or air dry? What kinds of sponges did you use? Did you root the eyelashes? Did you watch any tutorials? Did you make her to keep or sell? She’s definitely salvageable. Don’t throw her in the trash. If you’re seriously going to do that, please send her to me. Strip her, watch a few free tutorials and try again.
I think you aren’t using the right paints or techniques. For some simple instructions that will get you a decent doll, follow Denise Pratts instructions that are on the BB site.

Go on you tube and watch CustomDollBaby.com .KIm walks you through the process of reborning step by step.Paints are applied so thin you can see straight through them. Thats why it takes many ,many layers to get the look you want.Toss those paint brushes, buy some cosmetic sponges and use your tweezers to pick holes in them to create a pattern.I use my brushes for blending occasionally on creases and of course you need a tiny one for fine details.Seriously watching Kim’s videos will really help.I am sure that you will find many more reborning videos but I love watching Kim’s and I have been reborning for 12-13 years. Her videos taught me some new tricks.
Honestly this poor child is a hot mess but you tried. All is not lost you just need the right tools and a good tutorial, it seems like it should be easy but there are lots of steps and it takes a lot of patients. Get some acetone and strip that baby down and get back on the horse! You can do it!
You don’t have to be good at this but you need to get a fair chance to try to be good at it.
See customdollbaby videos on you tube she will walk you through it. Make sure you like and subscribe she put in a lot of work and has helped so many people.
That’s what I say when my dolls don’t turn out right. But I’ve gotten better. I’m still learning. Don’t give up keep practicing. Practice practice. As suggested follow Denise Pratts tutorial.
Try one technique at a time then post it up here for guidance. Do your baby skin and flesh then post. creases then post, blushing post, etc. Post before you bake. EVERYONE starts somewhere. very, very, very few people have a beautiful first doll. my first was ruined (drilled nose holes too big) but i use her as a test head now. her limbs were stripped. Even my 2nd doll was stripped. My 3rd came out okay but i definitely see where i can improve. Same with my 4th. I think all of us are always trying to improve. Just keep going forward. it takes practice and patience. And most of all, learn from the others. That’s what we are all doing here.
I say strip her and put her on the side. Browse YouTube and watch the tutorials, Denise Pratt’s is a good one to start with. After you watch hers and perhaps CustomDollBaby tutorials, gather the appropriate supplies and give it another try. It will make a huge difference.
I spent a good month studying tutorials before I even touched a kit and still had to end up stripping her. It took about 6 babies to start consistently making nice ones, and still I’m always trying to improve.
It’s all about practice. Work slowly and if you post your progress pics, we can help.
We all started somewhere and ended up with imperfect babies. I’ll give you an example. I’ve been making these dolls for about 10 years. I started with store bought dolls I stripped. Here’s one of my first babies.
and here is one of my most recent dolls. He’s not done, but…you can see the difference.
OK, so you’re just a beginner and as everyone has said—Begin by watching tutorials. These babies take a lot of time and patience!! Each layer is applied very thin and baked. Sometimes it takes numerous layers to even begin to see a difference in the color. If you try to apply too much color at once—well it just doesn’t work well. Genesis paints are much more forgiving than air dry so if you are using Genesis then stick with it. I would recommend you strip this baby and try again. The best product for stripping is Windsor & Newton brush cleaner and conditioner, it takes a bit of time. After stripping makes sure to Wash your baby VERY well in Dawn dishwashing liquid to remove all residue and let parts dry thoroughly inside and out. Now you will be ready to begin again. Use cosmetic wedges to pounce out your paint. Brushes for details. Plucked cosmetic wedges for mottling. You can do this!! Stick with it and remember, thinner is better when creating these babies. You’ll get the hang of it!! Show progress pictures along the way and we can help you. Remember bake between layers. Good luck!!
p.s. If there is a layer you don’t like----don’t bake it, take it off and try again. Once you bake a layer, it is “set” and another layer applied on top of it may be removed while “still wet” if you are unhappy with it!!!
Im going to just send it your way pm me your address im just done i will just stick with being a collector lol
I would say strip it and follow Denise Pratts video!!
Do not give up …buy the cheepest kit and start again …every time will be better …
Did you use Sharpie marker for the hair? If so, you will need a new kit.
This also might seem obvious, but going slow with each layer…and using a photo of a real baby for inspiration helps me a lot.
NOOOO Don’t give up!!!
WHen I first started I painted, stripped, painted, stripped…over and over the same 2 kits until i felt I had the technique down at least well enough to share a baby with someone else. SOmeone else said this before, but I’ll say it again VERY FEW people have pretty first baby…second, third or forth for that matter. Keep practicing you’ll get better and it’s so much fun when you get there.
The idea of starting over and posting each step is exactly what I did, and I got tons of help from the ladies here on the forum. You should try that.
You tried and that’s all that counts
I am so glad you said that, I have not stripped a whole doll just lips, good to know acetone will do that you may have just saved a baby!
