I had these 2 heads all painted and matted. Once they were matted I noticed the lips had accidentally gotten a bit matted so I cleaned them and reglossed them. After they were cured, I was trying out pacifiers on them but their mouths were very small and I was having a hard time finding one to fit. The last thing I tried was a Wee Thumbie and it fit one ok but very snuggly and on the other head not at all because she had left a sculpted gumline inside that made that one a tighter fit. When I pulled the pacifier out the gloss layer started peeling right off. I was so freaked out. Since I glossed them both with the same batch of paint, I rubbed on the other one’s lips to see if it was stuck well and it came off too! After consideration of how small the mouth openings were and how easily it can be split when people over stretch with pacifiers I decided to fill them both back up to seal. That went fine but the lips absolutely will not hold a new gloss layer now. I have glossed them twice now, each time after cleaning the lips with Dawn and water, rinsing and wiping with alcohol. The last gloss layer I applied last week. Today I tried rubbing the one that was the worst to start with and again it peeled off. It did stick in some spots but not securely all over. I peeled it off again, cleaned with alcohol and reglossed best as I could sealing things down. I did not even try to rub the lips on the other head as I decided to leave it alone for longer. Whatever was that contaminated that one layer of paint that first peeled seems to have caused a major issue. I don’t know that I would even sell them as boo boo babies. While they look ok right now the lip gloss probably would still rub off with force. So I am out $236 per head with the cost of them and having their eyes and mouths opened as well as shipping. Ugh! (Here is how they look. Lips are not quite as red in person)
I’m sorry that’s happened to you. How costly and frustrating. I absolutely love how the eyes of the second head are set. It gives the face so much character.
Yea, that is how she cut them and they just look a little cross eyed, LOL!
I have some of that here but mine has way expired and I have it set aside on my back porch to be disposed. It can cause your silicone to turn brown so I don’t want to use it since I bought it almost 2 years ago. It cost over $50 a can. I was reading online that the Psycho Paint can take up to 7 days to fully bond to a substrate and these had been reglossed this past week on Tues or Wed I can’t remember which. I am going to just put them away and revisit them in a few weeks. Maybe in that time it will have fully bonded since this last layer I pulled off seemed to have bonded in some areas. I could consider buying a new can of Inhibit X at that time, if I end up peeling this gloss off again. Gonna wait it out first.
edited to add the paint color on the lips has not peeled at all. It is just the last glossing layer that has given me issues.
How do the lips look unglossed? Not all real babies have wet, shiny lips all the time.
