I’ve ruined 3 pairs so far and am about to chuck Adelya in the trash!! I wanted to use oval glass eyes for her that I bought but they wouldn’t sit right so silly me, I cut the entire eye socket out inside her head! They still don’t fit right! Almost sliced her bottom lid through the inside but it wasn’t a deep enough cut so was saved there. Then I used a pair of bb acrylic eyes and they fit the sockets perfect with no gap at all, I poured e6000 over top of them inside to secure them good. Then another silly me moment, I wanted to glaze them with delta gloss. Ended up horrible! Blotchy chunky varnish with bubbles that I couldn’t get out. So I poked those out and glued in my 2nd acrylic eyes, and you guessed it, another oops silly me, let’s do the glaze again! Crap once again! I ruined my rooted lashes that time. Just got done redoing them and I have one more pair of eyes to use so they are going to get glued in and no glaze! Just venting bc I’m about to scream!
Oh boy have I been there! Hang in there and take a lot of little breaks. You’ll get it eventually!
I’ve been there. That’s why I love sleeping babies…
You definitely need a break me thinks sleep it off, do something else for a few. Don’t throw baby in the trash…she might stay there and become Oscar the Grouch
don’t give up!
I prefer sleepers for my personal collection as I think they are much more realistic…though I do have open eyed ones as well…
sorry you are having so much trouble…they are a pain when you don’t have any sockets to work with…Third times the charm though…Don’t forget to post finished photos …will love to see this little rascal that has caused so much trouble!
I never had any luck with glazing the eyes…EVER…so I just don’t do it any more!!!
I also mostly just use full round glass eyes now…the oval ones never fit right and the half
round are OK…but you can’t do side glancing eyes…they pretty much just go in and you have
no room to play around with them.
Oh boy I can relate! Madison and I really love it when eyes go smooth because they can be such a HEADACHE!! That’s the only part of making babies that can make me SCREAM!!! And I don’t scream… Lol but it makes me want to!
Blessings

@shandeni, I feel your pain! I love open-eyed babies and I usually use larger eyes so there’s less white showing. I also like to turn the eyes to the side. The flap fights me on this because of the larger size. Last night I ended up finally cutting the flap off but then had to press the eye into the socket as it dried. I just knew the E6000 was going to permanently bond my finger to the eye! Looks good this morning, though. I also root both the upper and lower lashes…a pain but I LOVE the look.
I’ve finally made my peace with Ceramcoat. I’ve had it all over the place and in the lashes and bubbles, oh my! Thankfully, I stuck with it but some babies heard a LOT of cursing during the process. My hubby runs away when that happens.
The open eyes can be more trouble but they’re worth it to me.
I love how engaging the awake babies are.
Thanks everyone for your encouragement. I haven’t looked at the eyes yet today for fear that they probably dried into place with gaps or glue showing through the gaps. I kept trying to use the delta ceramacoat bc there is the tiniest gap and I like to fill that in and have that moist look. I should of done the glaze first this time but I already glued them and have no more eyes to keep ruining. I’m going to go check on her and put her head on. I already have her body and limbs filled and put together. So wish me luck that they dried OK and she can be born today!
Well she is finished, eyes dried pretty good, there is the tiniest gap between the upper lid and eyeball and that’s why I wanted to do the glaze but I’m not ruining her again so she is going without. I did lighter hair and darker hair on top but in the pics you can’t really see the lighter hair so she looks bald in some spots but in person you can see it.
She’s really cute! I know your glad those eyes are done.

I love her x
Yea, the eyes are in!! They look good.
Thank you everyone! She is a gift for my aunt who fell in love with reborns when I first showed her one 2 years ago. She said she loved the babies with open eyes and I was going to surprise her for Christmas with this one but I was still rooting her hair. She has no idea she’s getting her so she will be shocked and hopefully she will love her.
I have done that as well, but I was able to save the eyes by soaking them in warm water over night. By morning they will be white ,and with a sponge I wiped it off. It may take a couple times but I saved many that way. Just a suggestion.
Just FYI… Rubbing alcohol always takes glaze off the eye balls for me. Only do this when the eyes are outside the doll. Lol
I run into this with the eyeBROWS! Sometimes I have to tell myself to step away. Yours has turned out beautifully. Very nice.
Thank you, I’m the same way with the brows too! Sometimes I get lucky and don’t stress out about the brows and just do them thinking I’ll be wiping the first 100 tries off anyways and they end up turning out pretty good on the first or 2nd try.
I did wipe them with alcohol and the glue came off but on every pair that I did that to, they had gouges on the pupil area. Like the alcohol ate away at it or something. I have 3 pairs that it happened to, they were bb acrylic eyes, are those the eyes you use alcohol on?
I just signed on to the forum. Just wanted to say, don’t throw away your goofed up eyes away. Try soaking them in water and dish liquid. It might take overnight or longer. You should be able to scape them off with your fingernail. Just thought this might help. I’ve learned a lot just by reading this forum.
