How to know what size eyes are required?

Seeing as I am re-doing the hair, I thought I might as well do the eyes too, but I don’t know what size they need to be. Is there a way of measuring them without taking out the old eyes? Also, will pva/Elmer’s glue fix them in? I’ve put eyes in vinyl play dolls before with it and it was fine but not sure about a reborn kit.

What kit are you doing? You can usually look up the eye size on the sites that sell them. I use Aleene’s tacky glue for my eyes. I cut the socket halfway around on the inside, insert the eyes from the back, position them and glue the socket shut. I make sure that some of the glue is on the edge of the eye where it meets the socket. I’ve never had an eyeball shift or come loose. I’m not sure if Elmer’s is strong enough.

She’s a Lovelynne kit. I never thought of looking up the size like that! Going to see if I can find a site selling the kit and if somewhere over here sells that glue. I think the sockets might have already been cut to get the current eyes in though so I just hope cutting it again won’t weaken the vinyl too much.

If they’ve already been cut it’s one less thing for you to do. Just make sure you insert the eyes from the back. I’ve been able to pull old glue off the eye sockets with long forceps. You just have to be careful not to pull to hard and work it a little at a time. I’ve only had one that I couldn’t get the eyes out. I can’t tell what was used to put them in. It feels like cement that was covered with a piece of paper towel. Weirdest eye insertion I’ve ever seen.

Macphersons says 18 mm but sometimes it isn’t right.
