Hi there everyone! I am currently working on a Realborn Johannah asleep. I use air dry paints Golden, Waterborne, UF & Rebornfx. It seems no matter what method I use to apply the paint, wether I paint it on and gently pounce with a sponge or kabuki brush or I smooth on the paint with a cosmetic wedge, it still keeps being patchy. The color is burnt umber. I’m not sure if it’s any of the mediums I’m using. Jo Sonja’s flow medium, slow dri, water etc. I’ve already stripped her once with rubbing alcohol and washed it off with soap and water. Feeling frustrated.
I haven’t used those other mediums so can’t comment on that. I use golden glazing liquid, satin. I use barely any water to mix with the paint. It is mostly the glazing liquid. That being said, I still have not gone super dark with the skin tone. I think maybe my layers need to be more concentrated with color…
Whenever I have painted AA babies, I notice the uneven color if my paint is too concentrated, try thinning it a bit more with either water or the medium lisalynn suggested. Also try doing a mix of the primaries, rather than burnt umber, you will get more control that way (I think). I usually add purple in between the red, blue, yellow mixture. Just make sure the paint is thin or it can start to look “dirty”
I used to always sponge it on but now I kind of paint on and sponge off most of the time. Shyann is my first darker toned baby in a long while. I need to do more
