I am reweighting my reborn baby and was wondering how much a 21 inch reborn should weigh?
I copied a formula from when I was following tutorials and this is the one I have:
length in inches x 3.5oz
head 25%
arms 3% each
legs: 10% each
body: 51%
With that formula, it’s around 4.5 pounds. I personally tend not to weigh the beads before I put them in, and I end up filling up to the knees and elbows. My 18/19 inches usually weigh a little under 5 pounds when I just eye it because I love heavier babies.
Instead of the 3.5oz, mine is more near 4.2oz. Hope this helps
I weight my 20-21" around 5 to 5.5lbs.
I do use the length in inchesx3.5 formula as well.
But it’s up to you how you like your dolls. Some people like them heavier and some like them lighter.
What I often do is use a body with string ties. I weight the doll and assemble with the string ties. I leave it like that for a few days, picking the baby up every now and then. Only when I’m completely satisfied with the weight and how it’s distributed, I replace the strings with zip ties.
5.5-6.0lbs.
Isn’t 19-21 inches an average newborn length?
So maybe about the weight of a newborn, but maybe a little lighter since dolls are “dead weight” ?
Might also depend on how chubby the sculpt looks. I wouldn’t really expect a newborn with big round fat rolls to be only lightly weighted.
I have read somewhere that the dead weight, is about 2-3 lbs less than the real weight. I find it pretty accurate.
I know that the dead weight of a doll seems much heavier to lift and hold than a real baby weighing the same amount. I don’t know if that helps you, just thought I’d throw that out there.
I’m nuts. I weighted a chubby one quite heavy. She looks like a 3 month old. She is 21 inches since getting a new body. She weighs just over 10 pounds. That is my preference though. I absolutely LOVE that she is heavy.
When I sell one, I’ll likely keep it between 5 and 7 lbs. I just don’t prefer them that light.
@Stuck, I use this same method but I weight the glass beads with the measurement then place them inside the baby. Overall, my babies normally weigh around 5 lbs.
