I purchased some “grit abrasive media” from Harbor Freight but they are as fine as sand so I dont think I’ll be using it. I’m looking around and looked at the other group discussions but couldn’t find the answer that I’m looking for. I see where some places sell glass beads by 10lbs, 40lbs, etc. How many babies would a 10lb make and so on? Thanks in advance
Thanks so much @Summer:grin:
You’re welcome
Wow @summer that is a lot of info, maybe I better go watch it.
I was going to say I use glass beads in the hands and feet, then poly pellets, cause I like the way they feel in the arms and legs, then fiber fill at top. I use glass beads in the body and head surrounded by fiber fill. So I kinda weigh as I go. So for me I average 5lbs of glass beads per baby.
I usually fill my limbs with glass beads to about the knee & elbow and the rest with polyfil then I add glass beads encased in panty hose (double layered) to the body. One pouch of glass beads in the “belly” area surrounded with cluster stuff on all sides and another pouch at the “neck” opening of the body. However, I’m going to try using steel shot BB’s in the body for weight on my next reborn since they’re heavier it leaves more room for cluster stuff and a floppier feel. I sometimes add polypellets to the butt to give a nice feel when you pat the baby’s bottom. I could be wrong but, I thought the polypellets could react with the vinyl … so, I only use glass beads and polyfil in my limbs.
My babies usually weigh around 4 pounds total. Since that includes the vinyl, plugs, and polyfil/Angel Silk, I’d guess the actual weight of the beads I use is between 2-2.5 pounds. So 10 pounds of beads for me would make about 4 babies.
Oops, I do use Cluster stuff in the body. It is better than polyfill.
It is the squishy baby fat pellets that react with the vinyl like BB sells, not poly pellets. Poly pellets are hard and safe, lol.
Here is an old post that talks about the difference;
