May seem like a strange question but in my 4 years of collecting its always been on my mind! All of my babies that I have painted are painted with GHSP and varnished. But I’m always hesitant to “feed” the baby or dress them because of the friction against the paint. Is this something I should worry about or should I just relax and enjoy my doll? Also I did Piper’s photoshoot and shes killin me with her cuteness
If they are sealed well and treated very gently, feeding and dressing should not bother the paint They should last for years.
Ok thanks for the reassurance!
I always treat my babies like they are “egg shells” , guess one can never be to easy.
Two of my ghsp babies started to get shiney and have paint rub off from clothing changes. I had to touch them up and revarnish them with airdry. Also have one losing some mohair on the back of the head
I have a question related to that. I see beautiful sparsely rooted babies, but always wondering what happened to their heads after clothes changes over time? If they don’t have a lot of hair to begin with what will they end up after losing some?
I don’t know. I think mohair is just very fragile and wears away in time. I am not changing this baby often. I think it may be breaking off in the back from the weight of the head. It was either rooted with delta dawn or slumberland so good quality.
I had one that I displayed only. Did not change clothes, move, or do anything to this baby. There ended up being an area on the back of the head with missing hair. I still can not figure out how that happened.
Thank you @LisaLynn and @DollyPardon for sharing your experiences. I love sparse new born hair look. It so sad that mohair behaves that way
Watch out for ‘silverfish’ they will eat their eyelashes! I think someone said that carpet beetles will eat their hair also.
The first reborn I bought (Saskia in 2018)…I keep baby in bassinet covered with blanket. I’ve changed clothing maybe 3 times. It has lost paint on the toes and fingertips, even though it’s never handled. I didn’t make this baby, so I don’t know if it was varnished or not. Disappointing though
I’m going to closely look at all my dolls and report back!!!
I don’t believe in collections, so dolls, to me, are tools for children, for comfort, or dementia. In watching my first dolls used daily by a girl over 6 years, I see that it took on a sheen. The sheen really is not that noticeable not even close to a satin finish. I am impressed with GHSP. I also have repainted store bought dolls that I use in a daycare setting over years and we have fun. Rooted hair - I feel is definitely an adult doll.
