A local lady bought a custom doll in May from me.
Shes very nice but doesnt work and takes her dolls with her every day all over treats them like a real baby a lot of constant attention .
She text me tonite said she just noticed his hair is gone in back where a head would rest.
She sent a pic and it is bald in back.Anthing that can be done to keep it from coming out again or breaking.? i told her maybe a cap so not so much friction on the back
.She walk a lot with him in the stroller as they dont own a car besides in the car seat at times .I cant see well in the pic but some looks broken off but the rest looks just bare.
Any sugeestion how she can keep it from happening again? anything to help keep haiir pliable too .I told her id add more and she did ask what id charge. Not sure if its my fault or not so probably add some free this one time.
Any suggestions on any of this?
Sounds like normal wear and tear - watching!
I don’t know what i’d charge. I do believe that in the past it was the mohair I used (supposed to be high quality). I had my babies in a crib, no playing with at all and I took them to a craft show. I was horrified to find the one had her hair breaking off in my hand. I put her back in a bag and had to re root (with different hair). Hopefully your customer will understand and you can fix it. Maybe suggest that she use some mohair conditioner regularly.
What brand of hair did you use? Lately I’ve heard even Delta Dawn hair is doing this. Another scenerio, I’m not saying this lady is a scammer but I had a woman say the same thing about one of my dolls, the only one by the way. She made a video…low and behold there were cockroaches climbing up the wall behind her, ewww. My husband used to be an exterminator and he said roaches love to eat glue, therefore they would eat at the hair. Just an FYI.
If it was me and it is the brand of hair doing this, I would want to see the doll myself. I would also re-root with a different brand of hair and only charge her for the cost of shipping. If it happens again you will know that she’s not caring for the hair/doll properly.
She sent me a pic…It is just the back where the head lays so i doubt roaches .that is gross!!!
I am and was using a quality hair and but now different provider but one everyone knows on here I did see a little breakage as i rooted another doll but not dramatically so. just here and there but had never had it before with her . May have been her priovider at the time…
Im more thinking wear. and constant having the doll with her at all times…Just wobder anything would help it from doing this again. All i can think of is a hat…
When she puts pics up the hair i see in front doesnt look brushed and looks thick so i wouldnt thihk she has brushed it away .
I had that happen to me. I sold a doll to a lady who purchased for her 7 year old daughter. She said her daughter played with it everyday and was very careful but after about three months, there was a bald spot developing in the back of her head. I rerooted the back and added some additional hair on top. I did not charge her anything. She had assured me the doll was taken care of. I honestly did not know if it was my rooting, glue or if the doll had been mishandled but I told her I would not charge her his time but if it should happen again, I would. I used a different glue and applied it two or three times. To my knowledge there were no more problems.
Thats just what in going to do.I used E6000 would think it would hold. This time ill put a few layers
Shes sort of OC DC about this doll.told me tonite shes been upset all day and carried him around all day .How long will i have him to get fixed ? I told her i have to order that hair…so a while before i even do it
Cant stand him out of her sight .
She carries him in a sling i guess said his head doesnt touch the back. But every picture hes in this car seat or walker laying or someplace laying well doesnt matter ill do it and told her keep a cap on him its not good for the head to keep adding hair Its not either i dont think
.
Didn’t mean to gross you out with the roach story, just something that happened.
Poor lady. Too bad someone near her couldn’t do the rooting. Is she using water or conditioner if she combs the hair? Maybe some kind of fabric or materials is reacting somehow with the vinyl and causing the hair to come off.
I use 2 layers of Gem Tac inside the head, it’s non toxic, doesn’t have a foul smell and is totally waterproof once dry. I also use this for magnets, back of the eyes, virtually everything.
Haha roach story didnt bother me of course i didnt mention it to her!
Ysed gem tac once but i used the whole small bottle in one head and it was so thick hard to brush in but might try again E6000 works so well drys fast but stinks so bad.Tellls all kinds of things breathing the fumes can do to you
i usually use it only outside and kinda hold my nose but winter cant too cold
Been using modge podge since it got cold but had used E6000 on that head of hers Logan
.Well she DOES live next exit up from me so im kinda stuck
Don’t real babies hair break off in the back of their head. My babies were born with lots of hair and they went bold but it started in the back of the head, Just tell the lady that is normal for a baby to go bald in the back of the head from sleeping on it LOL
Thata true but this is the WHOLE ba ck
