First play around with test pieces, get a head, an arm and a leg. Then get a realborn, preferably on sale. I think Ashley asleep is a good kit to start with.
Im still new but those are all good points because besides creases, open or closed eyes there is getting the paint mixtures and the amount of paint good, not too much or too little right. Those real born seconds limbs are nice in my opinion because you can get to paint some wrinkles and creases and learn to get the paint out of them. Or find out what happens when you dont lol. I would say open hands are easiest. They are so cute and not too big to strip.
You absolutly can not destroy a kit with air dry ! You always can strip. But I agree with @DancesWithDolls, start with a kit with lots of details ! That way, you will practice doing creases and shading. 16"-19", it’s enough big but not too much if you have to strip.
JMO,but start with a kit you just adore!! if you start with a junk kit, you don’t really like, you won’t like it no matter how good you are… again, JMO And BOL
Celeste is soooo scary to me. I’m not a fan of the kit
Jacelyn isn’t too bad.
I think I’m going to get Ana asleep. She’s the perfect match for the Ana awake and would make a cute twin. I’m going to get some realborn seconds parts and try on them first.
Great plan, good luck.
Thank you! I’m buying supplies this Friday. I’m ecstatic and afraid haha.
Just follow a good tutorial like Custom Doll Baby on Youtube and you will do fine!!
I won’t tell you which kit to pick since we all have different tastes. The info you have been given is all good. Pick a kit you like, not too dolly with good features (hands, ears, feet etc.) I know it’s kind of hard at first but it will get easier. I would suggest you start with a doll between 18 - 20 inches (or there around) smaller dolls are much harder to do (I think). A little tip if I may: Go slow, take your time and you will be much happier with your first finished baby. It’s hard when you’re excited to see what your baby is going to look like all finished but slow and steady will get you a Nice baby in the end!! Good Luck and be sure to post pictures, we love pictures. If you get stuck along the way—well—that is what we’re for!!
@danidolly I’m doing the primary washes but so tempted to buy a premixed kit and forgot about that. I’m worried my baby will be messed up. I have good color theory information and experience with colors in art. Can you recommend a good tutorial as I make up my mind?
@lynn I’m going to work on Ana awake first, since I have her. I can only paint during the day when the kids are at school or busy. That equals a long time painting lol. I’m glad I’m taking my time. That means I’m learning and watching artists show me what works, and what doesn’t. That’s why I love this forum and you all. It’s taught me so much. Thanks everybody!
