Glazed Eyes - 3rd and Final Type I have seen

Hi Angie!
If you have an ill fitting eye…this sealer will not fill the crack if that is what you are asking.
What I do in that case is stuff the eye socket with cotton and then snug in the eye!
(of course…that is assuming you put eyes in from the front while the head is hot like I do)

Thanks Janan, This may be an option for the ladies that like the wet look. I was hoping you may stop by once Angie mentioned that you used the floor wax…Never heard of this before being used for eye shine but if it hold up on the eyes half as well as it does on well travelled floors…it might be just the ticket for ladies that want the look…Appreciate you stopping by on this thread… :kissing_heart:

you are welcome…it is not really wax…it is liquid acrylic. I use it to seal the pacis and rattles that I paint too!
Good Stuff and you can get it at Walmart (or most any grocery store)

@janan do you use it straight from the bottle or dilute it?

Sorry Judy, No one named or shamed you so I really am sorry that you felt it necessary to come on and give your name… (Many times I don’t even know who the original artist was to start with though I admit I did know you did this one because I was enthralled with the hair you used… Is it real hair you have used on this one?)

I don’t think there would be too many people who would recognize the photos I have posted…I did have a very nice lady tell me that she recognized a part of one because she had seen the original doll photos and because it was not my intention for it to be recognized, only showing the problem, I went back and removed the portions that she mentioned might identify the doll so there was never any reason for anyone to know the artist. .I think you have done a nice job and I love whatever hair you have used on this little fella too. so no negatives was said about your doll or your reboning…Most all of us have used these products so it is just helpful to know when things don’t work so well for us…none of us like to have our dolls come back to us because if something we did not know would happen…

I have been telling the ladies here for months about problems with different glazes and how they go off over time or possibly because of conditions…I decided to post photos here as I got dolls to repair that showed any of the problems… I AM glad that you have told us what was used as the Plaid Dimensions is one that I do know for a fact goes very gooey over time…(I used it on several of my personal ones back in 2009 when I first started reborning and they went cloudy and sticky within a few months…) As you can see from the photos…around the eye sockets…it was already gooey - not from 'ripping the eyes out"…the lashes I had removed after I took the eyes out so the missing lashes were not pertinent to the subject as I mentioned I had removed them if you read the post - that was not the point of the photos…

The glaze would not roll up into sticky balls like that if it were hardened…that was just done with a toothpick as I don’t use anything else when working in the sockets for fear of removing paint…I am not here to make any derogatory statements about anyone as it is not my style, this was only an instructional thread to show the ladies some of the different things that can happen with different products…Sorry you felt the need to make it personal… :disappointed:

This lady has about 17 of mine as well and I have always found her lovely to deal with…She must love both of our babies to have so many of them from both of us…She has always been complimentary of your work so she has never said anything negative about any of your babies and neither would I…

It is a bid disappointing that you felt it necessary to take a dig at me by saying you had to root some hair on one of my dolls - disappointed:…I have never professed to be the greatest hair rooter in the world anyway but I will say I do root quite a nice head of hair or so my customers tell me…so that does not bother me … You root nice thick hair and I know our lady likes it for some of her dolls so I am not at all surprised if she wanted more rooted in…I know you would have done a lovely job

Anyway, I am sorry that you felt bad…really was no reason as no one knew who you were till you told them…Hopefully though you can see that Dimensions can cause problems down the track…

There are no hard feelings on my end…I’m sure you are a lovely lady and I have just recently seen photos of some of your other babies and it looks like you have rooted human hair and they are beautifully rooted…

This was never an issue about the quality of a doll or the reborning but about not so great products we have all been sold to use that don’t work well…

Hi lovely lady…

While it is disappointing to find out something went wrong with a doll one of us has made, I still would much rather know it than not so as to no repeat the process. I had no idea whose doll this was. I am very glad to know what product it was though I have never heard of that one or used it.

@nikkiroc I use it straight from the bottle. I place the head with eyes facing up and level…then just drop it in off a brush…sometimes do a light brush to spread it…let it level and dry. I would pour a small amount into the cap to use so you don’t contaminate the bottle when dipping the brush ,and rinse the cap before replacing or it gets sticky and hard to remove (voice of experience)

Sorry Judy, Never said your babies were ugly, you’ll have to show me where I said that? I could never say that or I would be a liar…I think your babies are lovely…

Also, again, I never named you as the lady that had a doll sent back for a fee…I do doll repairs for quite a few ladies so there was no reference made to you…Please go back and read the comments properly. Here is my statement and at no time or in no way were you ever mentioned…It was not you to whom I was referring nor was it to our specific lady who buys from us…If you have had some issues, I do not know about them…as I told you when I PM’d you, nothing has been said negative about you…it is a product we are discussing here not your reborning skills…I have very little interest in critiquing others work…I am a true and firm believer in Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so everyone has a market for their work because someone who may find your baby beautiful may not like mine…I am not offended by that - it is just life…

If you are able to read yourself in this comment, I can’t find it…so please let me know where and I will be happy to change it??

With the photo…I do admit I accidentally had 4 photos up…It was an honest mistake as I was downsizing the photos and had done a select photos with the intent of it being the sockets and 2 eye shots…I did not realize it had picked up the other shot and never paid attention to the post as I moved on to other topics as soon as I hit reply but when a very kind lady PM’d me she knew the doll, I went back to correct it and that is when I saw the other shot…I pulled it down straight away and it was not even up on the forum more than 10 minutes before I had removed it…I will bet you ther are probably only a handful of ladies that even saw it…there had only been 2 comments to my post when it was removed…and it was an absolute unintentional …I have NEVER posted anything hurtful to another and never would…It is not my personality…

As I mentioned above as well - that is all this is about

Again, if you were offended or took something personally that was not directed at you…I am sorry for any misunderstanding…This was only meant to be helpful and I hope that people will benefit…If I had a photo of one I had made back in 2009 that this happened to, I would have gladly posted it here if it would help others not make the same mistake…

WOW! I’ve been thinking about the last few exchanges on this thread off and on today. I logged on a wee bit afraid I’d find a “forum closing” post. I hope I’m going to say this right but what a CLASS ACT I found instead. This exemplifies the best of friends quickly dealing with a “moment”, clarifying the info and linking arms again. Kind of restores my faith in people. Maybe you guys could run for president? (I know it would involve a big move but still…?)

Lol Starr I know you didn’t say my kid was ugly I was just making a bit of light humour to admit I did act a bit defensive and shouldn’t have made that little dig to you earlier. I just know that the ladies reading this would have wondered why the customer didn’t tell me there was a problem or ask if I could fix it…I guess as this doll was a gift she didn’t feel right to complain…anyway it is all good…there are no hard feelings anywhere and I will stop glossing the eyes. I actually thought it was the standard thing to do and the tutorial I learned it from was from a well known respected reborner. The afro hair I use is from Katie Messou on EBay

Whew…I feel better now…I was thinking “now how can that lady even for a minute think I think her babies are ugly/” lol

Seriously, he is lovely and I love his hair…And our lady does love your work…The only reason I can think that she may have sent to me instead of letting you know was that you had been kind enough to do him for her for free…It would probably be a bit rude to ask someone to make changes to a gift if you know what I mean…She is proud of all her dolls and sends me photos of both yours and mine and others from time to time as well…She did tell me you had gifted him to her and she was a bit shocked that you had been so generous…(not meaning she wouldn’t think you were generous but not many ladies will send you a free reborn…) .so that may be why she didn’t contact you…

There is a lady on here the uses some sort of acrylic floor wax that she says works well…that may be an option for glazing eyes too if you like them glazed…I am so glad that you came on here…I wanted to tell you about the glaze but I don’t mettle with other ladies methods…I know I was taught to use the glazes too when I started out and I used the Dimensions, had the trouble and went to Aleena’s for a short time and had trouble so gave it up as a bad joke…Have had probably 8 -10 dolls a year come though from ladies wanting me to fix the eyes but most times I never know what product was used so haven’t been able to really say what causes what…

Now is this real hair on this little man and do you normally root human hair on your toddler size babies…I have seen a few of them and they are so pretty…

Ok sweet lady, thanks for letting me know that you were joking about the ‘ugly baby’ comment…I sure do feel much better…would never hurt your feelings in a million years and COULD never say your babies were ugly - ever… :kissing_heart:

I bought some of the Pledge Floor Care Finish today to try. I want to reiterate what Janan said, It is not a wax. It is a liquid acrylic. I read on the bottle and it says it is a “Multi Surface Finish…Long Lasting Shine and Acrylic Protection.” It also says you can use it on all Tile, Vinyl and Wood Floors. And it says it stands up to wear and tear of heavy traffic without yellowing.

Katie’s hair is human hair and it is quite wiry but if you spritz it well with diluted conditioner and use an afro comb to comb it then it dries so soft. I’ve seen the same hair on AliExpress for a lot cheaper but I haven’t tried it in case it only looks the same and isn’t actually the same. Here is a link to Katie’s and I do use the whole pack for a doll this size but I do root it thickly. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Human-Hair-for-Rooting-Reborn-Dolls-Babies-Toddlers-Brown-Afro-Curl-NOT-Mohair-/121901719673?hash=item1c61e8a079:g:JvgAAMXQAMlRYKdX
Angie I’ve seen Janan mention the floor polish before and I’m interested in looking into it…I might do a few dolls without any finish on them and see if I’m satisfied. I usually use glass eyes so shouldn’t really need it.

Thank you for mentioning the eye glaze you use as I have this product and have been questioning it lately because the second doll that I ever made, I think I used this on the tongue of the ‘open mouthed’ doll. Today it is quite sticky , lucky this doll is a keeper as it wasn’t much good anyway. But I won’t be using this product again. And thanks for the tip with Katie’s hair as I have some of that also. It’s more of a ringlet type but as you said quite wiry. BTW your dolls are beautiful and I know Starr made no reference to the contrary.
Look forward to seeing more of them. Cheers. :grinning:
