Question on using the Genesis heat set matte varnish, is this mixed with the mona lisa or is it used from the container?
Thank you advance,
Kathie
I think some people do it straight from the jar and others mix it with thinner. I personally mix with thinner because I think it makes the doll too matte and too sandpapery if I don’t. Hope that helps!
Thank you, I couldn’t find my pdf from bb, and wasn’t sure how to do it. I’m a first timer and practicing.
Hey Kathy. I mix my Matte with a touch of satin varnish and mix in thinner…just a touch of each to make it workable. Be care with matte as it’s just thick and hard to work with.
I also mix the matte with the satin and some thinner.I never have a problem with shine and i don’t care for a sandpaper feel on their skin if used too thick.
I use it straight from the jar or sometimes mix a little heat set satin varnish in with it. But whenever I’ve added any liquid thinner to it I always get chalky spots that won’t cure, no matter how much baking. And it seems to make my dolls look a little shinier when mixing in thinner.
Thank you all, now I am a bit confused, some say yes and some say no and to use satin varnish mixed with the matte. All I have is the heat set matte that came in the kit. Where do I get the satin varnish?
I wouldn’t worry about getting satin. Mix it with thinner. alittle at a time. You’re going to get different opinions on what works for us
Do what Annie said just use the matte with thinner.
I did use the matte varnish with the mona Lisa, a little at a time, I can’t believe the difference it made in my doll.
Glad you are happy with how your baby turned out. I have used matte varnish with Mona lisa for ten years and I have never had a shiny baby. Enjoy reborning.
