Fur baby thread!

Oh No, this has got to be just devastating, I’ll pray that your baby will regain all function to his leg and be good as new shortly. I’m so sorry, this must have been terrifying.

Lisa that bottom picture is hilarious!!!

It’s hard to tell from the pic but her feet are up in the air. When she doesn’t want to do something like get off of the bed or go inside she does exactly this. We say she is pwayin’ and saying pweasy no. Once it’s warm, she gets the flops when she goes outside :joy:

Omgosh! Something close to this happened to my son when he was little. Crazy kid jumped on a small empty aquarium that was laid on its side and fell through it slicing his leg, it was terrifying! Hoping Tate makes a speedy and full recovery. x

That’s an insane accident. I wish him a full recovery. Dogs are resilient and strong. The fact that he eat and drink is a good sign. Don’t give up hope.

Meet Pigeon, his brother’s name is Possum! They’re the cutest and they’re definitely keepers. They’re dwarf rats and I’m loving their size and activity level
In the background are regular size adult rats, a boy in the very far back and a girl closer to him

Oh, Emma I’m so sorry, this sounds absolutely horrifying. Both you and your husband have experienced so much trauma with both your St Bernard dogs. I am sending all three of you love and healing prayers.

I just wanted to give a little Tate update, he’s doing so much better than expected! We still don’t know what his long term outcome will be, but he’s home and recovering well from the blood loss, his gums finally have a little color to them this morning! We did see a specialist who said they would consider him a candidate for amputation, mostly due to his age, which was a huge relief. We are hoping it doesn’t come to that, and we’ll have a better idea of how much blood flow it’s getting in the coming days. They also gave us more surgical options to possibly help with more blood flow to the area.

He’s able to walk a little bit with assistance to go potty, it looks kind of like he’s walking with an asleep foot, not the most graceful, but it works. We need to keep him off of it as much as humanly possible, so he’s been on tranquilizers at home. It makes me feel really bad to drug him daily, he’s not the calmest though, so we have to in order to give him the best chance. He’s been going to the vet every 48 hours for bandage changes and has to be put under each time which has been rough. Today marks 7 days since his injury and surgery so we are hoping to find out if it looks like his foot is getting blood flow at his appt tomorrow. So far he hasn’t had a pulse in his foot but that was expected after surgery for the first week, praying that changes quickly!

Keep healing Tate!
My kids and I are rooting for him. My kids are blown away with his size  Our dog is 7 pounds. LOL

My son said you should build Tate a wheelchair like the dog on “A Pet’s Life” so I showed him photos from your FB to show how huge he is and how a wheelchair on a large dog isnt as easy. Also I am sure its even harder for a front leg one.

Aww thank you, 7 pounds, I can’t even imagine lol. They would love Tate, he absolutely loves kids so much! I’ve actually been looking at possible wheelchair options, they do make some that look decent for one leg but I don’t even know if they would make it through the doors!

My roommate’s little buddy broke his leg yesterday, the vet said a splint could work IF he left it alone but with rats it’s extremely unlikely that they actually will. So we were facing surgery to put pins in his tiny bone, amputation or euthanasia if a splint didn’t work out. We chose to attempt a splint and see how he does and reevaluate if he will not leave it alone. We got a quote for amputation just to know fully what we could be up against.

So far he is leaving the splint alone and is doing amazing, taking his medication like a little champ. We’re taking shifts staying up with him to ensure he won’t mess with the splint. I have night shift since I work evenings and sleep better during the day than the night anyway. Fingers crossed my little best bud can keep the splint on for the next 3 weeks and heal up his cutie little leg

Here’s a pic of Thorin with his “fancy leg” as we’re calling it lol

1 day down! 20 left to go
He’s doing great so far, starting to get back to his sassy self which is good to see. He’s my favourite of my roommate’s rats and he’s most bonded to me of all people so I’m taking the lead in his care as I also have more experience with sick and injured small animals and vet care in general. We’ll get him through it
