I have some really sad fur baby news. Our dog Mayhem was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. Some of you may remember we lost our Saint Bernard Odin to lymphoma a little over a year ago. It’s making this news feel even more devastating as I never expected lightning to strike twice, especially so soon :pensive: She has an oncology consult tomorrow, which is one thing I’m grateful for. They got us an appt in less than a week. When Odin was diagnosed we lived in Ohio still, the closest oncology vet was 4 hours away and the wait for an appointment was 6 weeks, he died a week before his appt.

We’re kind of in this awful blur of disbelief and devastation. May has been with us for 8 years, since she was 2 weeks old. We got her at a very difficult emotional time just a week after a stillbirth, we bottle fed her and she truly became our baby. The thought of her not being here and going through what Odin went through is unbearable. We are going to try chemo if we’re able, the only thing we know so far is that she has large T Cell, which isn’t good. There’s B cell and T cell, the saying is B is better, T is terrible. Odin had T cell also, it usually doesn’t respond well if at all to chemo. We’ll be able to make a better decision after her oncology appt which will include many more tests that will tell us the percentage of success with each chemo type and her exact stage.

I take really good care of my dogs, they eat a homemade diet and are so healthy, besides cancer obviously. I can’t help but feeling like it must be our fault somehow, maybe heartworm preventation, the random treat when we’re eating, the occasional skittle or starburst I yell at my husband for letting her have. Our vet says it just happens, there’s no known cause and it’s nothing we’ve done, but I can’t help what I’m feeling! I’m terrified that Tate will get it also if we don’t figure out what’s caused this and eliminate it and it’s very doubtful we will.

Sorry to hear Emma. I’m sure your vet is right that it is nothing you did. My sister in law had a dog pass from cancer 10 yrs ago. They were really great dog parents and finally adopted another, feeling like they could love again. They had Reggie just a year when he got cancer. They were devastated and had to go through all the treatment and care all over again. He passed about 4 months ago. Life can be so unfair. I am wishing Mayhem the best. x

I am so sorry. That’s nothing that could have been prevented. A lot of cancers appears out of nowhere. I know that you can’t make this feeling go away like magic, just try not to fall down this path too deep. Your dogs had a good life with loving parents that were doing their very best to take great care of them.
I send a virtual hug your way.

So very sorry to hear this… Several years ago we lost our cat Texas to diabetes and his sister grieved herself to death and passed away 6 months later… it was like losing 2 children for us as they were our only family out here. I will never fully get over it and still have guilt that we did not know about the diabetes before it was too late… there were never any signs and both our cats were inside cats only… very pampered with yearly checks, top quality food, etc… The vet told us that it was not our fault but you always feel that there may have been signs you missed that if found early would have made the difference… Anyway, just know that I hope and pray that you will be able to get the help she needs or comfort with whatever decisions about treatments etc are made based off diagnosis…

She always needs to be between our legs under a blanket, but she is nosey and if she thinks there is something going on that she needs to know about, she will poke her head out.

Oh my goodness your little dog is adorable! She looks so much like Benjy the film dog!

While he’s not mine exactly, my roommate adopted this sweet little bean today! They said he is 4 months old but based on his size and coat I’d say he’s at MOST 8 weeks old. He is such a precious angel. He had a brother but the people that adopted the brother rejected him because he has red eyes and left him all alone. He is so desperate for love and attention he just wants to be snuggled and loved on
