I assume you’re referring to the eyebrows. I still do the paint and wipe routine. Google baby pics and really look at the eyebrows and notice the direction they grow. Using a light color makes nice “barely there” brows that a lot of babies have.

Here’s some pics I saved for reference (NOT my work):

Im not even TO the eyebrows yet!.I mean the face shadows etc.
Yes then the eyebrows .
They are hardest for me unless the prisma pencil works.I shaved down a brush to a few tiny hairs i still get too wide of a line…

For the shading, I use Genesis Thinning Medium and lightly paint in the crease, then use a small mop brush to pounce and blend.

For the brows, on days I’m not capable of painting them, I use the Prisma pencil, too.

On the lips, I like to use a really watery thin layer of blue…watery and thin being the operative words here. Give the lips an alive look, and if you need to go over them again after that, a layer of thin watery red mixed with a teeny-weeny bit of black ~ amazing what the little dot of black does to the red.

Then if you feel like it, might add some depth to the creases; I think she’s well on her way and looking good, but I’ve only ever painted one AA baby so I’m afraid I can’t be of much help.

Also, you’ll find that once she has brows and her eyes are in, she’ll really POP!

It’s hard to tell from the picture. Are you saying you aren’t seeing “depth”? Did you do some mottling under the flesh layers?

Lolli yes depth and it is hard to tell in the photo. I looked at her prototypes and seems to have at least as much shading as they do although theirs arent AA.
Added eyebrows and yippee the prisma went on well.Think i have the knack now with pencil DO not touch eyebrow area WITH FINGERS EVER and do not use mineral spirits to clean it off just a dry q tip.
Then it seems to go on fine after varnishing.Well worked on this doll anyway.
.I just wish id think more how good eyebrows look think less … .is this pencil going to work? …i notice i make them a little too on the bushy side not neat smoothed in together Need to angle less.
Also
Did i say the blue worked wonders on her lips!!Love that. Will recheck it all in the morning before her last bake.
Thank you everyone you have been so kind and so very much help.

I mottle AA babies just like i would a caucasian baby. It adds depth to the skintone.

I did mottle her at first but all the layers of paint doesnt really show now.maybe ill try some on top see what happens Thanks

I think mottling on AA babies keeps the skin from looking too flat and dolly.

Maybe mottle with a flesh color a tad darker or lighter. I would also suggest that you go ahead and pop some eyes in. Sometimes that makes all the difference when you’re trying to figure out “what now”.

Yes, maybe even put the pieces together like a baby and put a cloth over the body section and take some pics. It’s amazing how you can “see” more that way.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
! i did mottle her… its a LOT better Guess you have to take artistic license sonetimes .
i used a lighter shade of brown then used ethic blush and also a watered blue its a little heavy but im letting it dry Did the limbs too although they werent bad …but oh they came alive!! .Again thanks.
Ill put the eyes in once i bake her.See what we have.
The eyebrows arent real heavy but not sure about them
I had to use black which looks sort of grey because brown didnt show up.Maybe ill try to do some painting on the ends of each to lighten just a tad.
