For my first heatset reborn can i use an open eyed kit?

For some reason open eyed kits seem less expensive. So i would like to use one of them for my first

You can use whatever you want. Use the spyglass at the top to research topics. There is a wealth of information on here. A closed-eyed kit is easier, since you don’t have to learn how to put in the eyes, seal, and root eyelashes on an open-eyed kit. But pick what you want. Also look for the posts of people selling their unwanted kits. You could find things cheaper than on the website.

I don’t think it really matters since you said on the other post that you already have an experience with the air dry, so I assume that you painted several dolls already
For me open eyed babies are always more challenging as you need to insert and glue their eyes and do their eyelashes before or after depending if you root them or use applied lashes.
But at the same time you can learn more with the open-eyed kits.

I wouldn’t. Awake babies tend to look more dolly and it adds an extra level of frustration for me cause they never look real to me when I paint them :weary:

Not sure where you are seeing awake kits are cheaper though….all kits are priced the same :thinking: But in the end the cost more money cause you gotta buy eyes and I have yet to find any acrylic eyes that look real once I get em home and put them in and glass eyes are expensive $60-$100!!! Even resin eyes are expensive $30-$100 (worth it for the artistry if you ask me) and hard to get ahold of

And then you gotta work on a baby staring at you with creepy empty eye sockets while you paint :face_with_peeking_eye: they do come to life in a special way that is gratifying once you put thier eyeballs in though.

Installation comes with its own set of issues… sometimes they don’t fit right and the vinyl bulges causing a bug eyed look that you don’t even notice until you see that they look different from prototypes :rofl::rofl::rofl: then sometimes too much white is showing or not enough… you can rip the vinyl or accidently cut through it when creating the opening. I have always had the freaking varnish crack between thier eyes try to reach the eye into the socket

If its Bountiful baby sales its cause awake realborns dont sell as well so they have more in stock. So that triggers the system to put them on sale.

So true. Besides Ruby, I think all BB open eyes babies are unnatural looking.
