Ebay observations

Just spent an hour of my life eBay-ing. I fell down the reborn rabbit hole. I swear I could not figure out how the price of a doll is decided ( I am speaking of reborns not the fake China knock offs).

I was thinking," OK thats a limited sculpt or that is really awesome painting, or that person is doing something unique" but I couldn’t find a pattern. There were dolls listed for thousands and some really awesome dolls listed in the 200 dollar range. Honestly I couldn’t figure it out. Some of those auctions are just out of control…

I am avoiding eBay, too many people I know feel like its a gamble, that there are a lot of bottom feeders looking to take advantage. It isn’t fair to the honest buyers and sellers.

I am wondering if the market is getting over saturated? I hope not. I just started and I really love doing this and love this community.

I have just decided I am not a fan of the Zombies…they really freak me out. I don’t do horror… I am just not a fan, I don’t even like scary halloween costumes. I like edgy but bloody babies hurt my heart.

I agree about the zombie babies. Some of them are so well done it freaks me out and yes hurts my heart. PS I love horror and watch walking dead, lol. But the babies are too scary :confounded:

I agree with the zombies. I don’t when people say he realistic ones are creepy. I mean being in 7th grade, you have to have a great comeback to everything. So of course in the stairwell one kid screams," HEY MADDIE, DO YOU STILL HAVE THAT CREEPY DOLL BUSINESS!!" And I was like," I never had one!" And someone goes,“Ooooh SAVAGE!” (That’s basically what you get called if you have a good comeback, It’s a good thing  ) I am so off topic. Lol

I agree with ebay most of the higher end reborns you see for high prices are well known in the industry and they can command higher prices. I have bought some babies worth 1000’s for 200 also so imo price is just whatever the artist feels comfortable accepting.

And what someone else is willing to pay for it.

Yes all about what you think someone will pay for your baby how good you think it is yourself! Ive seen some i feel … your kidding yourself!! but like people who think they are opera stars some people cant look at what they created realistically. Why the prices vary so much.Yes some under estimate themselves too.

The market has been over saturated for years. It is just a luck that somebody looks at your doll and likes it. That is why it is so important to do listing wisely. When people look at dozen of dolls they like and then one of the seller has silly unenforceable conditions, many just move to the next one.

Some people ask less than the doll should be selling for; it is either because they cannot wait and need the money, or they list the starting price low thinking people will bid it up.

Totally over saturated! I get less for my dolls now then I did as a brand new artist 3 years ago:-(
