Does it matter

I havent found the answer… when stripping a kit does it matter if it was painted with heat set paints or air dry, for what you use to strip?
I have an old reborn of mine i want to redo, but i cant remember if i used heat or air dry on her,
thanks,

JMO and from personal experience I would never strip an Air Dry baby with alcohol or Acetone if you are going to repaint it with Air Dry.

You could always start with W&N brush cleaner and restorer. If it works, it’s likely GHSP. If not, its probably air dry and will take 90% alcohol and possibly acetone to strip.

I always do that and it’s working fine for me. I have no choice as I use only air dry. What is your bad experience ?

I use air dry and have used the W&N to strip. It just takes some scrubbing but it did the job

Actually, the W&N works great on Air Dry as well.

I use air dry. Windsor and Newton does remove it. It’s easier if you put it on and let it sit for a minute. I’ve only used acetone one time on a doll that I re-did for someone. The paint was so thick nothing else would take it off. I washed each part as soon as it was stripped and then moved on to the next one.

I must be doing something wrong because Windsor and Newton does nothing to air dry paints for me. I had a doll that was a few years old and it didn’t do anything. Only acetone worked.

thank you

I use air dry and if I have to strip I use acetone.

I was just going to say the same. Maybe it’s the type of air dry I use, but W&N did absolutely nothing for me. I put it on there, scrubbed and scrubbed. Maybe a tiny bit came off, but nothing more. I put more on, let it soak. Came back and started scrubbing. Long story short, I ended up throwing it in the trash and getting a bottle of acetone.

the type I use (LDC air dry) stains the vinyl, I always threw it out, never found anything to remove it :frowning:
Luckily haven’t had to in years, but boy the first few years of reborning, I wasted doll kits :frowning:
